with honors and a delightful evening

joyed themselves immensely with all
sorts of games, etc., ice cream, cake,
coffee, etc., being served during the
evening. Miss Furney left on the
local on Saturday morning for Pen
dleton, The Dalles and Portland to
visit with friends before leaving for
her home in Astoria. Our good w ish
es go iwth her. We offer our con
gratulations to Miss Millred Duncan
and Master Jackie Hynd, pupils of
Miss Furney, who succeeded in win
ning their diplomas for high school.
Messrs. Rogers and Gurdane, ac
companied by Misses Odile Groshens
and Isabel Wilson, all from Heppner,
made a short visit with Mrs. T. H
Lowe at the Highway House on Sun
day before leaving for Arlington.

they reached home they were quite
exhausted and were certainly "sad
der but wiser men.
Messrs. G. Moore and E. Ander
son, contractors who are surfacing
tne Lexington-Heppner highway,
and also J. Snyder of Lexington
made a short stay m Cecil on Fri
day. These gentlemen had been
looking over the road from the
county line to Heppner Junction
pending the contract of same road.
Several fine samples of fine Mer
ino wool are to be seen at Cecil
store. These samples were sheared
at Sand Hollow by Hat Pearson and
shearers who declared they so far
this season had not sheared finer
ewes or cleaner wool or heavier
fleeces either.

T. W. Lowe arrived in Cecil on
Friday after spending a few days
in Heppner before leaving for Mon
tana for summer range, with a few

Karl is improving greatly under the
care of his doctor in Portland.
Smythe Bros, sheep have been
passing through Cecil all week for
their ranges. The tenth band pass
ed through Cecil on Saturday. All
are in the best of condition.
Airs. Charles Gardner, Mrs. Pence I
and Miss Duster, all of Salem, spent
Saturday and Sunday in Cecil vis
iting with Mrs. Gardner's son, Tunis
bnyder.
A. Henriksen of Willow creek
ranch returned home from the coun
ty seat on Thursday after spending
several days amongst his friends in
town.
Miss Grace Palmateer, whose
school on Four Mile closed on Friday
for the summer vacation, left on the
local for Hood River on Saturday.
Miss Malinda May who has been
teaching in Vale arrived at her home
at Lone Star ranch on Sunday where
she will spend her vacation.
W. G. Hynd and brother Dave
from their ranch, Rose Lawn, in
Sand Hollow spent the week-end
with friends in Cecil.
Geo. Brandes of Butterby Flats
spent a few days in Portland before
caving with the Mayors sheep for
the mountains.
Mrs. Jack Hynd and sons Herbert
and Jackie were calling on Mr. and
Mrs. Geo. Perry at Ewing on Sunday.
Walter Pope and J. Peterson of
The Willows were loking up their
friends around Cecil on Sunday.
Oscar Lundell autoed to The
Dalles on Saturday where he will
visit friends for a short time.
Harold Ahalt, government trapper,
spent the week-end in the lone dis
trict. Herb Hvnd was a business man in
