must be trimmed wherever possible
and no new appropriations made;
and the pressing need of the farmer
and stockman must be the main issue
in law making and in the sphere of
public influence.

The "Mayor" left his home town
accompanied by his better half on
Tuesday declaring all sorts of trouble
in store for the Heppner weather
man unless we were treated with
some better weather. After spend
ing a couple of days chasing the wea
ther Wan around Heppner the "May
or" and his wife returned home and
behold! Thursday" and Friday the
weather was all that could be desir
ed. . Should the warm, sunny weath
er leave us again, we will ship our
mayor and his better half to town
again in search of the weather man.
A large party of charming young
ladies from Heppner, chaperoned by
Mrs. F. Tolleson, arrived in , Cecil
on Saturday morning and will be the
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hynd at
Butterby Flats and wilt take in the
dance at Cecil hall. It is rumored
Archie will also attend the dance,
but will arrive in the dark to escape
the watchful eye of the "Mayor" and
"Constable John."
Jack Hynd of Butterby Flats ac
companied by G. W. Wilson, made a
trip to Boardman on Saturday to
view the country around there and
compare it with sunny Cecil. Geo.
declares the only good thing he saw
was a fine young lady just arrived
from the Emerald Isle and he is ser
iously thinking of taking up a home
at Boardman.
Mr. and Mrs. J. J. McEntire and
children of Killarney were doing bus

at work at Killarney in a few days.
Ed Melton spent Saturday in
Heppner and returned to Cecil on

F. H. Rieks reports striking water
at a depth of 120 feet Monday. Mr.
Peterson has been drilling a well for
him and had to go through about 50
or 60 feet of solid rock. Heavy
pressure flow of water was struck
under the rock which raised to about
35 feet of the top. A few feet more
might have made an artisian well of
it. ' '
Chas. W. Benefiel came up from
Wasco Sunday and returned Mon
day. Mr. Benefiel has a sub-contract
on road work near Wasco but
will be in doctor's care for several
weeks for treatment of stomach trou
ble. His sons will handle the work
during his absence.
Mrs. J. L. McCune has sold her
house and lots in town to C. A. Mc
Fall and they have moved into the
house. Mrs. McCune has packed up
and is going to stay with her daugh
ter at Boise for awhile and Mr. Mc
Cune has gone to The Dalles to work.
The frost forecast for Monday
night and Tuesday morning failed to
materialize here. The thermometer
only registered 40 during the night.

Saturday evening, April 15th. Every
body reports having a fine time.
Fanner Smith was an Irrigon visit
or Sunday. He is getting younger,
at least looks it.
