Clark, M. D. Clark and Edward Rlet-
niann. as hoard of directors of the John
Pay Irrigation District have filed a pe
tit Ion In the Circuit Court of Morrow
County, Oregon under date of March 11,
1921, asking for confirmation, Judicial
examination and Judgment of the Court
as to the regularity and legality of the
proceedings and acts of the board of

gallon District since the 2nd day of
September, 1919.

a result of the postmaster's efforts to
supplant the American language by
the Herman language In a church of
Emerald.
The trouble started when the pastor
of the church Invited two Legion mem
bers to deliver patriotic addresses In
the church. When the speakers ap
peared. Janus objected to their pres
ence nnd called for a vote of the con
gregation to decide whether they
should he ousted. It was the will of
the majority thnt the Legionnaire
should not be beard. After the vote,
the .legion members quietly left the
church.

dren roaming the famine lands, chew
ing roots and bark, and hanging tena
ciously to life, In the effort to pull
through until spring. The relief or
ganizations are struggling against the
overwhelming situation, and are sav
ing some of those on the edge of the
great famine district. Surely every
man, woman and child in Oregon will
want to give something towards the
China Famine Fund."

Assist Grand Army Man Who
Ha Been Stricken.

bers of the American Legion to their
comrades of the Grand Anny of Hie

deavoring to obtain aid for a Civil war
veteran of that city, who Is suffering
from cancer.
"The post Is In need of advice as
to how we can assist this hero of an
other war," the post commander
writes. "He Is stopping with relatives,
who are doing all they can, hut since
they have to employ a nurse, I know
that they cannot continue to care for
lilin because of luck of funds.
"Now, we would like to have you

lie done for the old veteran. This Is
a worthy case and I believe anything
the legion can do for the old boys
who won' the blue will be appreciated.
There are but a few of them left, and
I think the Legion would do well to
look after them, since no one else will
do so."
