Historical Race Has Been
Featured in the Films
A thousand nondescript vehicles,
thousands f bewildered beasts of bur
den, more thousands of excited, clamor
ing humans are all drawn In a line a
half mile Inn, waiting the pistol shot
that opens a territory of rich land to
homesteaders.
Such n mad race, in which thous
ands participate, is seen in "Hitchin
Posts." The racers, who at the pistol
shot begin a concerted dash, soon
-Grapple and drop in number. Rut the
excitement increases in intensity as
those with the swiftest horses take the
load. Finally two are left and of them
one is Frank Mayo in this picture at
the Star theater next Saturday.
In the life of a motion picture stu
dio, where adventure and thrills and
emotion ate the warp and the woof of
everyday life, few scenes can stand out
from their backpraund with enough
force to thrill the habitues. This land
race in "Hitchin' Posts" is such a one.
The scene is just one In the story by
H, M. Shumate which (leorpe Hull
adapted to the silver sheet for Univer
sal. Jack Ford directed the picture and
he rounded up every quaint vehicle
from miles around Universal City to
participate in the land rush.
Frank Mayo has one of the most
dramatic characterizations of his car
eer In "Hitchin' Posts" and he has a
cast of rare talent in his support. Be
atrice Hurnham Is seen as a sweet Sou
thern aristocrat. J. Farrell McDonald
has a part of appeal as the river fiddler,
and Joseph Harris has the thankless
role of the villain. Damar Clodowsky
appears as an octoroon and others in
the cast are Mark Kenton, O. K. An
derson, Puke Lee and M, Hlddulph.

of a woman's heart.
The story which it tells Is highly
dramatic and the spirit of sentiment

been brought out in this picture in a
