Don't Tie Up Freight Cars
To break the fnnghi blockade, and
break it quickly, the railroads anj
the Interstate t ouimerce Commis
sion must have tlie cooperation of ev
ery single shipper ana cousiguee in
me Lnued States.
Shippers must speed up the load
ing of cars.
Consignees must speed up the un
loading of cars.
With hundreds of thousands of
freight cars on the railroad systems,
it seems like a small matter when one
lone car is tied up on a siding a day
or so, waiting to be loaded or unloau-
ed.
But this spirit, prevailing among
thousands of freight car users, has an
overwhelming combined effect. It is
cumulative, like straw piled onto a
camel until each straw has joint re
sponsibility for breaking the camels
back.
Lvery hour of needess delay in
loading or unloading creates car
shortage.
Railroad congestion is holding
back the nations prosperity. It is
only a step from railroad congestion
to railroad paralysis. And railroad
paralysis is business paralysis.
hvery shipper, every consignee,
should speed up his loading and un
loading as if the breaking of the
freight blockade depended on each
individual car.
Speed your loading.
Double-speed your unloading.
What Ails The World?
What ails the world, asked a big
business magazine of its big business
readers.
Of course there were many ans
wers. The most of them blamed the
common man, the farmer among
others. "Too many diamonds and
not enough alarm clocks," said one.
Probably true. "Too many silk shirts
and not enough blue flannel ones,"
said another. No doubt. "Too many
automobiles and not enough cows,"
was a third. Maybe.
But we didn't see among the list
such things as "too big profits and not
enough honest dividends," and "too
much display of wealth and not en
ough old-fashioned, quiet living."
But there was one answer that ap
pealed to us more than the twaddle
of the Pharisees. It read:
"Too much class consciousness and
too little common democracy and lore
of humanity."
There are too many people in
America conscious that they are rich
and great, too many conscious that
they are the under dog. The rich
man who thinks he is better than
somebody else is simply purse proud
his pretentions are sure proof that
he lacks brains or that his brains are
not functioning properly. The man
who thinks he's an under dog be
cause he works, is simply foolish and
ignorant. It is an ancient saying
today as It ever was and it will be
true forever.
But the main trouble is that there
is too little love of humanity these
days, love of your fellow human
Man is the noblest work of God and
He loves his work. If God loves your

For A Greater Oregon !
"To organize, circularize and ad- i
vertise Oregon." This is the purpose ;
of the state-wide expansion movement
now under way, to encourage and
strengthen the Oregon State Chamber!
of Commerce. The state has been
organized for an extensive canvass
for budget subscriptions totaling
$450,000, covering a three year per-'
iod, of which $180,000 is to be rais-j
ed in Portland, and the remainder
outside of Portland. !
Leaders throughout the state are
taking an active part in the move
ment to match the State Chamber to
its opportunities for usefulness as a
stale-wide development agency.
Oregon has many natural advan
tages, as all Oregonians know, but
its needs are many. The world does
not kndw of Its vast acres of tillable
land uncultivated; undeveloped wat-j
er power; unoccupied area that could ,
be made to support 200,000 new pop-;
ulation; scenery to compare with
Switzerland; precious and base met-!
als in the hills waiting to be mined;
besides coal, petroleum and natural
gas; lumber resources and shipping
facilities all awaiting the develop
ment and world publicity which an
organization like the State Chamber
of Commerce is best qualified to
furnish.
The State Chamber is the logical
agency for the development of these
resources and the capitalization or
these advantages.
The intensive canvass for funds
will begin In Heppner during the
week of July 6th and the Gazette
Times would like to see every indus

Good Seed Wheat to Be Found.
The Farm Bureau has made ar
rangements with Professor Hyslop of
Corvallis to inspect various fields of
seed wheat in Morrow county with
the idea of finding the best possible
seed available for various varieties.
Without .attempting to argue Iwhich
variety -should be sown as proof is
scarcely sufficient to determine that
to everybody's satisfaction, it is un
deniably true that we should have
better seed of the varieties we are
using. An effort will be made to se
cure both forty-fold and bluestem for
pu.. seed.' Last year a sufficient
quantity of hytrid wheat was Import
ed for all the needs of the county
this year, and no effort will be made
to import any of these varieties. The
seed Imported, hdwever, will be in
spected and certified If possible as
pure seed and a list made concerning
these. Any farmer who has a field
which he believes pure enough of
