at the Council Chambers in the City

of City of Heppner Funding Bonds In
the sum of fifteen thousand dollars
($15,000) said bonds to be in denom
inations of one thousand dollars ($1,
000) each, dated January 1, 1940, to
bear interest at the rate of five and
one-half per cent (5 ft) per annum
payable semi-annually on the first
days of January and July in each
year, principal and interest payable
at the Fiscal Agency of the State of

through Heppner on Friday, enroute j
by auto for Pendleton.
I. L. Howard of lone was here on
business last Monday. Mr. Howard
recently sold his fine alfalfa farm on
Willow creek and has moved to his
place on the outskirts of lone.
James Curt.v, Tub Springs sheep
man and ardent booster for the John
Day project, was here on business the
first of the week. Mr. Carty reports
everything OK in his vicinity.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs.
Chas. S. Reynolds in this city on Mon
day, March 15. Mrs. Reynolds is a
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Smith
at the Vaughan & Parker ranch.
B. G. Sigsbee, manager of the Star
theater, spent several days last week
in Portland, where he went to pur
chase furniture nnd other equipment
for the new theater in the Elks' build
ing Mr. and Mrs. Jack McCullough
have returned from a brief honey
moon trip to Portland and are now
at home to their many friends at their
residence on the west end of Balti
more street.
B. F. Swnggnrt of the Eastern Ore
gon Jack Farm was a Monday busi
ness caller in Heppner. Mr. Swag
gart is nn enthusiastic booster for
the county fair nnd is particularly In
terested in the racing features.
Rhea Luper, assistant state engin
eer, was here from Salem and spent
the week end with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Jas. R. Luper. Mr. Luper
today announces Ills candidacy for the
republican nomination from the East
ern Oregon district, for public service
commissioner.
Chas. B. Sperry, manager at lone
tor tlio Northern Grain and Ware
house Co., and also political aspirant
to the office of sheriff, mado a visit
in Heppner on Monday. Mr. Sperry
announces that the lone Elks are pre
paring for a big dance there on the
night of April 9th.
Leo Nickolson. prominent Univer
sity of Washington student, lias arriv
ed from Seattle nnd will spend Cue
next several months in Morrow coun
ty. Mr. Nicholson made his loiter
w.hMo playing on the varsity basket
ball team this year and made nil ex
cellent, record in that branch of athletics.
