Homer.
Homer Is an epic poet and not a his
torian, so It Is quite natural that h
should have exaggerated everything
with poetic license. Moreover, the
events which he describes are so mar
relons that many scholars have long
doubted the verj existence of Troy
and have considered the city to be a
mere Invention of the poet's fancy. I
venture to hope that the clvillied
world will not only not be disappoint
ed that the city of Priam has shown
Itself to be scarcely a twentieth part
as large as was to be expected from
the statements of the Iliad, bnt that
on the contrary. It will accept with de
light and enthusiasm the certainty
that Ulum did really exist, that a
large portion of It has now been
brought to light and that Homer, even
although he exaggerates, nevertheless
sings of events that actually happened.

I MAGAZINE I
I SUBSCRIPTIONS I
The increase in magazine postage rates and the
increasing costs of manufacture are compelling
many publishers to increase their subscription
prices. If you are thinking of adding a magazine or
two to your list or of sending one to a friend, DO IT
NOW either bring in your list or mail it to us.
Trade at Home
There are hundreds of swindlers in the land who
take people's money for subscriptions and move on
to the next town to spend it. Usually these confi
dence men offer magazines at greatly reduced prices.
No standard magazine, that is, no magazine you
really want, permits anyone to reduce its price. You
cannot buy the kind of subscription you want, cheap
er than thru your newsdealer.
