STEWART FAVORS IXCRESAE
Petitions To Re Circulated Raising
Road Bond Limit to 6 Ter Cent
From James S. Stewart of Fossil
and Corvallis, Oregon, legislator.
members of the Northwestern Society
of Highway Engineers heard last
night that initiative petitions soon
will he circulated in Oregon to place
on the ballot a measure to raise the
limit on bonded indebetedness of the
state to 6 per cent. At present the
limitation is 2 per cent for the state
and 6 per cent for the counties.
Mr. Stewart declared that tne com
monwealth is under a handicap in
matching the federal funds that are
and will be made available for high
way construction in Oregon. With
authority to use the credit of the
state up to the same limitation that
is placed on the counties he said it
would make nossible the matching of
government funds to the amount of
$40,000,000.1 Condon uioDe-nmes.
