Finleys are large operators of wheat

Spencer Akers of the Peoples
Hardware Company expects to leare
in a day or two on a combined pleas
ure and business trip to Portland and
will be absent from the city two
weeks.
L. L. Jakes, who farmes a large
tract of land in the Fairview district
was a visitor in Heppner Wednesday,
his especial business being to settle
the balance of his taxes. He has
lust finished combining his crop.
Phill Jones, who has been farming
in the Lexington .section the past
year, has purcrased the Ernest Hunt j I
residence near the depot and the j :

Oscar Keithley, who returned last:
week from a trip to North Yakima. '
reports that that section suffered
one of the most severe wind storms
in its history. Mr. Keithley was in
a part of the wind torrent with his
car and said for a time it looked like
he was going to be completely
wrecked.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Bortzer have
been visiting during the past week at
the home of Mrs. Bortzer's daughter,
Mrs. Fred Tash. - Mr. Bortzer re
cently sold his large wheat ranch in
the lone country and will locate in
Hood River for the coming winter.at
least, and later may decide on an
other location.
Mr. and Mrs. Arleigh Arthurs of
Portland have arrived in Heppner
and will make their home here this
winter, Mr. Arthurs having accepted
a position with J. E. Maxwell at the
Fountain of Sweets. Both Mr. and
Mrs. Arthurs are accomplished musi
cians and they will be a valuable ad
dition to the social and musical life
of the city.
