Miss Louise Nimmo returned to
her home in Albany Wednesday after
spending several days In Heppner as
a guest ot Miss Leta Humphreys.
Miss Nimmo is a teacher in the Al
bany schools.
Waldon Straight, one ot the star
performers of the Lena Round-Up,
was a visitor from his Butter creek
home in Heppner Monday. Waldon
is figuring on riding some of the wild
bronchos at the county fair.
D. E. Oilman, who spent last Sat
urday night up on Ditch creek,' says
the same dry conditions prevail up
there In the timber as down here In
the open country. Its hot up there,
too, according to Mr. Oilman.
Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Freeman left
Sunday morning for Vancouver,
Wash., on a two weeks visit with
relatives. The Freemans own a
thirty acre tact near Vancouver,
which 1b given over to apple orchards.
Arthur I. Bowker, son of Albert
Bowker ot Heppner, will enter Hill
Military Academy in the Fall, the
term starting September 17. His
credits have been accepted at the
Academy and he has been enrolled
as a cadet.
E. R. Huston returned the last of
the week from Portland where he
had gone to be with his son John
Huston, who underwent an operation
or appendicitis. At last reports, the
younger Mr. Huston was recovering
satisfactorily.
Berl Gurdane, Ray Rogers, Will
Ball and Marshall Pbeps motored up
from Portland last Friday. Messrs.
Gurdane, Rogers and Ball have been
spending a few weeks at the beach
and Mr. Phelps Just completed a term
in a tractor school in Portland.
Mr. and Mrs. L. V. Gentry and Mr.
and Mrs. A. E. Patterson returned
last week from a motor trip to Klam
ath Falls, where they went to take in
the Elks' convention. They took
four days in making the return trip
and announce a most enjoyable time.
Mrs. Leo Hill and little son left
Friday for Woodland Wash., where
she will visit at the home ot Mr. and
Mrs. H. E. Dart. On her return
home Bhe will be accompanied by her
other two children who have been
spending the summer at Woodland.
Dr. and Mrs. A. D. McMurdo re
turned to Heppner last Friday after
spending several weeks in Portland.
The McMurdos had planned a trip
by auto to the caost but Dr. McMur
do took sick when they reached
Portland, and underwent an opera
tion there.
Andy Rood, Heppner Flat farmer,
finished up the 1919 harvest season
on his ranches last Thursday. Mr.
Rood had a quantity of grain that
yielded better than twenty bushels
per acre. He has purchased a big
Holt catterplllar tractor and will use
It In plowing his land this Fall.
County Agent Hunt, accompanied
by W. P. Mahoney, cashier of the
First National Bank and W. Claude
Cox, manager of the Morrow County
Creamery Co., left last Friday morn-

Mrs. E. S. Duran of Lexington en
tered the local hospital on Monday,
where she will receive medical treat
ment. The nature ot her case has
not been fully determined, but it may
be found that an operation will bo
necessary. Mrs. Duran was accom
panied to" Heppner by Mr. Duran.
Theodore Anderson, Eight Mile
farmer, has Just completed the har
vest season on his ranch by threshing
his twenty-bushel crop. The Ander-son-Allstott
thresher, a Rumley ma
chine, has pulled on to Mr. Allstott's
fields, going there last Friday. Mr.
Allstott's grain is number 1 quality.
Mrs. Fannie Rood, ot Portland was
spending a few days In Heppner last
week visiting with relatives and at
tending to some business matters.
While In Morrow county, Mrs. Rood
bought the Jake Bortzer ranch In the
lone section for a consideration of
$60,000. She has rented the ranch
to J. W. Chrlstopherson, who has
been farming in Gooseberry. Mrs.
Rood spent Saturday in Iono making
