Mrs. D. W. Boltnott and baby
daughter departed Sunday for an
extended visit among her relatives
in Kentucky. She goes direct to
Dawson, Kentucky, her home town
and will visit there and at other
Doints throughout the state, exoect-
' ing to be absent from Heppner for
some time.

for Patriotic Endeavor.
Loyal and dependable support of the
President and his prosecution of the
war is the prime requisite demanded
by all Amerioan citizens of every can
didate fur office at this time. Win
the war and win it now is the demand.
Nobody lias any time for the pacifist.

It is with a full knowledge of these
facts that tlis Republican State Cen
tral Committee 'commeuds to the. vot
ers of the stale every Republican
nominee on the ticket. , Senator Mo
Nary and Representatives McArtlsur,
Hawley and Sinnott have made good.
They have subordinated politics and
are wonting earnestly for the one
great cause win the war. Each has
a 100 per cent record in his support
of the President. Never have they
faltered in backing up the President's
war program. They have given him
support at times when such Demo
cratic leaders as Champ Clark, Kitcliin
and Dent balked and by their attitude
Imperiled the enactment of legislation
vital to the successful prosecution of
the war, foremost of which was the
selective draft law.
Here at homo, Governor Withy
combe has cooperated with the Presi
dent tn every war activity. His zeal
in patriotic work has been unbounded.
He Is intensely American. The un
paralleled record Oregon has made In
all war time activities and the alacrity
with which the state has responded
to every call for patriotic endeavor is
due In part to the leadership of Cov
entor Wlthycombe.
Both in the halls of Congress at
Washington and in the Governor's of
fice at Salem, the people of Oregon
are fortunate in having experienced
men with a record 100 per cent Ameri
canmen who are standing behind the
President for a vigorous prosecution
of the war to a speedy and victorious
conclusion.
Senator McNary, Representatives
McArthur, Hawley and Sinnott, and
Governor Wlthycombe should all be
reelected. They are at their posts of
duty. None is making a campaign.
They are too busy serving their state
and nation. They should be returned
for continued service. Election of
new and untried men, lacking in abil
ity and experience to fit them tor the
positions, would not only be unwise
at this time, but would fall far short
of the patriotic duty of the voters of
this state.
IS POLITICS ADJOURNED?
The extent to which politics has
been adjourned by the Democrats in
this state is best revealed by the factB.
While United States Senator McNary
is remaining at his post of duty at
Washington, loyally backing up the
President in his prosecution of the
war, his opponent, Oswald West, is
conducting an active campaign for the
Senatorship. Press of official busi
ness, occasioned by war time activi
ties, has made it necessary for Gov
ernor Wlthycombe to forego a personal
campaign. He is remaining at his
office in Salem attending to the busi
ness of the state and cooperating,
with the national administration in
every war time activity. Not so
with Walter M. Pierce, who op
poses him for the Governorship. Mr.
Pierce is and for weeks has been mak
ing a thorough canvass of the state
urging his candidacy upon the voters.
Sure! "Politics is adjourned" for
the Republicans.
What the Burns News said of Gov
ernor Withycombe in the primary cam
paign is equally true today: "The
many level-headed actions of Governor
Wlthycombe, coupled with his un
daunted and unquestioned patriotism,
with his tenacity of purpose to assist
Oregon and its citizens in the fullest
efficiency In domestic, commercial and
military affairs, entitle htm to the
Indorsement of the electorate of Oregon."
"In his price fixing bill, as in his ca
reer as Senator, Mr. McNary has
Bhown his ability, his vision and his
statesmanship. We are grateful to
the state of Oregon for having given
us such a Senator. He reflects credit
upon his state and does honor to the

Beginning Sunday, October 12
The Oregon State Council of Defense has requested that
no delivery of petroleum products be made on Sunday.
The Standard Oil Company is glad to comply with the re
quest and beginning Sunday, October 12th, and thereaf
ter until further notice, all of our distributing stations in
the state of Oregon, including our automobile service sta
tions, will be closed on Sunday. No sale or delivery of
any land will be made on Sunday. "
As in the case of our previous ruling regarding the sale
of gasoline and engine distillate only between the. hours
of 6 A. M. and 6 P. M. ; now week days only. This request
is made for the purpose of conserving man power and we
know that our patrons will patriotically cooperate in
making this important war measure effective.
