As a rule birds are the finest sen

Ph"f!S!ints always grmv restless and
chaiter noisily if Zeppelins are np
proi'diing, even when they are fur
nwny, so far that man can hear no
sound.
What Is perhaps stranger is the fact
that such ordinary creatures ns pigs
should sight a balloon when it Is com

the sky, miles from a farmyard, the
fanner will he made aware of the fact
by the curious nnHcs of his pigs and
the clucking of his hens.
' Toy dogs uhvays are susceptible to
the presence of danger, nnd mnny a
pet shows uneasiness before a raid.
Cats, too, show fear of gunfire and
seem to know when danger threatens."
Pogs, birds nnd horses are very sen
sitive to sound. Watch the birds dur
ing a daylight raid, listen to the dogs,
and visit the stol.le where the horse
restively stamps up and down. Pmt
that all animals can accustom them
selves to sounds that cause fear is
proved by pur cavalry horses, dogs
that accompany their masters Into the
firing line, nnd the robin's nest in the
empty shell case.
