Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Brown arrived
Monday from California, where they
(spent several months for the benefit
of Mr. Brown's health. Alter re
maining in Heppner for a while, they
will go on to Alberta, Canada, where
they expect to spend the cummer.

The chairman of the different com
mittees gave good reports. Mrs. E.
G. Slocum, chairman of the member
ship committee, is moving to Heppner
so sent in her resignation which was
accepted. Mrs. G. W. Scott was elec
ted to fill the vacancy.
The officers of the Lexington
branch wish to express their apprecia
tion for the hearty cooperation and
help of the business men of Lexington.
The next business meeting will be
held the last Tocsday in March at
the home of Mrs. G. W. Scott.
The branch headquarters will be
open every day during the week trou,
now on thus giving a chance for ev
eryone to come and "do their bit.
Elks Had Fine Time.
Heppner Elks who made the excur
sion trip to Condon last week say
they had a fine time and bring back
a lot of praise for the way they were
entertained while in the Gilliam coun
ty metropolis.

Charles, who enlisted many months
ago with the 3rd Oregon is now in
England, having gone there from
France just a short time ago. The
letter stated that Linus Judd was al
so with him. The boys are feeling
fine and say the England climate is
like Oregon Spring weather.

of the Circuit Court of the State of
Oregon for the county of Morrow on
the 13th day of February 1918, in a
certain action in the Circuit Court of
said County and State, wherein Clara
J. Latson, plaintiff recovered judg
ment against Margaret McAyeal and
C. R. McAyeal, defendants for the
sum of $1000. with interest thereon
at the rate of eight per cent per an
num from the 8th day of December,
1917, and $100. attorney's fees and
the further sum of $30.25 costs, and
the further sum of $117.10 with in
terest thereon at the rate of six per
cent per annum from the 1st day of
November, -1917, together with all
costs that have accrued or may ac
crue, which judgment was rendered
on the 24th day of January, 1918.

on Saturday the 16th day of March,
1918 at the hour of 2 o'clock p. m.
of said day sell at public auction to
ths highest bidder for cash in hand

that said Laura May Stoy is a minor
child, who was born to Edgar Stoy
and -i Stoy, his wife, at Weiser
In the County of Washington, State
of Idaho, on the 2nd day of March,
1904; that the mother of said minor
child is dead; that the father of said
minor child deserted her' in tne
month of March, 1916, having left
her In the care and custody of peti
tioners on the 29th day of January,
1916; that said Edgar Stoy, father
of said minor child, has not been
heard from for nearly two years, and
his whereabouts Is unknown to the
petitioners; that said Edgar Stoy,
when last seen by petitioners and
said minor child, stated that he in
tended to go to Alaska.
Your petitioners declare that they
and each of them do freely and vol
untarily adopt said Laura May Stoy
as their own child; that it is their
wish to bestow upon said minor child
equal rights, privileges and immuni
ties of children born to them in law
ful wedlock, and that the name of
said child be changed to Laura May
Hays.
Wherefore, your petitioners pray
that said Court will fix a time for the
hearing on this petition, that notice
thereof be given all persons interes
ted as provided by law, that on said
hearing a decree of adoption be made
and entered by said Court bestowing
on said child all the rights, privileges
and immunities of children born to
them in lawful wedlock, and that the
