A 6000-MILE TIR
Twenty thousand Paige volunteer salesmen joined the Paige organization during
the last season. .
Every purchaser of a Paige car immediately becomes a willing and enthusiastic
"booster." .
That is one of the principal reasons why Paige cars are easy to sell and it also
proves that the Paige stays sold.
'"'heel- ao.ooo volunteer salesmen have been a big factor in creating the Paige
waiting lists that are growing steadily throughout the country,
nationwide enthusiasm for the Paige is inspired by the mechanical ex
cellence of The Most Beautiful Car m America, its reliability, its durability,
its economy of operation its supreme quality.

How four people can drive over a
fifty foot embankment and have the
car roll around until It Is a wreck and
then all escape is a situation that be
longs more to the moving picture
world than it does to real, everyday,
ordinary life. Yet, this is just what
transpired here Monday afternoon
when Ed Farnsworth of Monument
drove his car off the grade between
here and John Day. Mrs. Farns
worth was in the front seat with Mr.
Farnsworth and Mr. and Mrs. Leet
Paine were In the back seat. Tlrey
reached a point on the narrow grade
where it was about 50 fet down to
Canyon creek. Thomas Crowley
started to get onto the running board
as the car was moving slowly. Mr.
Farnsworth turned his head to see if
he got on safely and as there was a
turn in the road the Instant taken to
turn around was long enough for the
car to start on its headlong plunge.
The thrilling sight was witnessed
by a number of people and they said
that it looked like a "Movie Thriller."
Mr. and Mrs. Farnsworth escaped
with hardly a scratch. Mr. Paine
was cut and bruised and Mrs. Paine
suffered a broken nose. There were
cuts and wounds sufficient to reden
the ground with blood and the scene
looked like a fatal accident had trans
pired. Canyon City Blue Mt. Eagle.

Poor Sidewalk Cause of Injury.
Improvement of Heppner side
walks is timely and may be the means
of averting serious injury to more
than one person. An example of
what a rickety sidewalk will do, was
shown last Saturday when Mrs. M. J.
Bradford stepped on the end of a
loose board and was thrown violent
ly to the walk, receiving serious
bruises and a nervors shakeup. The
walk on the south side of the Opera
House building, which in any event
would be used mostly by residents
living on the west end of Willow St.,
is absolutely dangerous to pedes
trians. One trip over this walk, and
the average citizen will forever take
to the middle of the street. Some
of our worst sidewalks should be con
demned and ordered replaced with a
substantial walk, or at least torn
completely out, thereby removing all
chances of danger.

of some local lawyers there is no
question whatever as to the time for
the opening of the deer season in
eastern Oregon. It opens September
1 and Deputy Warden Tonkin has
been, given orders to prosecute any
one hunting prior to that time.
The two conflicting statutes pub
lished yesterday and which threw the
question of the season's opening in
doubt are done away with by a third
act passed later in the legislative ses
sion and approved by the governor
February 21, 1917, or several days
after the other laws had been approv
ed therefore taking precedence over
them.
The latest law found in chapter 416
of the 1917 session laws was evident
ly enacted to correct the conflict and
it does so in specific terms, making
the eastern Oregon deer season last
from September 1 to October 31, the
bag limit in one season being two
deer with horns. In Malheur and
Harney counties the season lasts from
Aug. 15 to Oct. 15. Pendleton Tribune.
