THE JONES WEEDER
To raise better crops by cultivating
more and raising less weeds. It will
pay you to invest in a Jones' Weeder.
This machine has been greatly im
proved this year and will be a great
factor in bigger crops.
Built In sections like a harrow,
each section cuts five feet. You cau
use as many sections as needed. Six
, horses pulls three sections cutting
fifteen feet.
Absolutely the best machine ever
built for cultivating summerfallow;
does the work speedily and thorough
ly. Get a Jones' Weeder beforo the
weeds get big and ruin your summer-fallow.

The Gazette-Times is in receipt of
a communication from J. 0. Allstott,
formerly a prominent stockman of
Oklahoma, who is now running goats
on a large scale in the southern part
of Morrow county. Mr. AUstott's
letter explains just what success he Is
meeting with.
August the middle, 1917.
Harry Wright Ranch, near Lone
Rock or Hardman, but as the names
of those towns don't resemble sur
roundings, I won't write from either.
There aren't any lone rocks out here,
and the men aren't hard, even if we
do leg everything down from Hepp
ner, our distributing center, that we
can.
Well, I have been here nearly two
months, taking It rough and tumble
over these chasms and rocks, and to
my surprise, the goats have started
tomending. This Is one great coun
try. While there are plenty of draw
backs to this country, I believe there
is some honey in its comb. There are
,a thousand things in this world that
won't tally out according to the
books. So it pays a new comer to
keep his hands ready and do a little
feeling as he goes along. For in
stance, the day I landed here, Uncle
Jim Wyland snacked with us and at
dinner he told us he had trout for
his dinner the day before, said there
were plenty of fish. So that sounded
right to me, being a long time on
beans and sow bosom.
So when I struck camp I went
down to a brook and lay down to
drink. I kept notice that the water
was full of minnows or trout (I
thought). As I was too fish hungry
to scare them off I downed a few
gulps and to my surprise they were
i leaches or tadpoles. Uncle Jim didn't
! lie, the fish are here alright, but I
was drinking at the wrong hole to get
them.
The range out here has been play
ed for sheep since June. Now all the
sheep are out of the way and higher
up In the mountains. From my ex
perience with goats out here I say
there are ranch men all around here
that could handle goats from June to
September and put beef fat on them
mostly from feed a cow or sheep
won't eat. While my goats have been

stuck on one bed ground these two
months, they are gaining fast. They
should have been moved but I failed
to do so. So in conclusion, from what
I see, if I stay here another year I
want to handle 2000 goats some
where and will say for the good of
others, If you want to buy goats, feel
ahead a little (or you might get your
month full of tadpoles or leaches.)
The goats from the Valley ought to
be run through a dip. For their feet,
strong vitrol once a week and put out
here early while the ground is damp.
I think Arizona goats, or goats from
any high and dry climate will do ex
tra well here.
Now, in conclusion, I am to get
those goats in some stubble fields. I
will be at the Robt. Allstott ranch at
Eight Mile and if any of you men
have some fields that are near the
railroad for sale drop me aline. I
must have water. I just want to
graze the goats over and catch the
wasted wheat and I don't think it
will bother your stubble for winter
pasture. They will clean your weed
patches!
When this bunch of goats are put
on the market I will write you all full
details on same.
' I like the country and the people
here. While this is the lonesomest
dam creek I was ever on, I can't help
liking it. The spring is just passing
Two weeks ago, the bushes were in
full bloom and the birds sing sweet
ly. I can't understand why the vege
tation blooms so late. It strikes me
that August spring Is cutting things
quiet short for the farmer. With
best wishes and a wide spread for
