day and Teusday in Heppner.
J. L. Wilkins left the first of the
week for a vacation of ten days. .
Criss Hamilton of Monument was a
visitor in Heppner the first ot the
week.
Bernard Pehr, principal of the
Hardman school, was in the city
Tuesday..
Ralph Burnslde was a Heppner
visitor Monday from his home in the
Hardman section.
Mrs. C. C. Chick of lone motored
to Heppner Monday and spent a few
hours in this city shopping.
I. P. Richardson, Standard Oil
representative, with offices in Port
land, paid the local office a call this
week.
County clerk Waters issued a mar
riage license this week to G. H. Tup
per and Reine Otea, both young peo
ple of Ione.-
Dr. N. E. Winnard reports the ar
rival of a fine daughter at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bray in this
city Saturday, August 18.
Attorney Cal Sweek and Mrs.
Bweek are spending their vacation at
the summer cottage of Mrs. Sweek's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hawthorne at
Newport beach.
Helen Whittington, the small
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. 0. M.
Whittington, underwent an operation
last week for the removal of her ton
sils. Dr. Winnard had charge of the
case.
A new subscriber to The Gazette
Times this week is Frank Woods. Mr.
Woods will have charge of one of Ed
Neill's bands of sheep in Idaho for
flie next few months. He left Hepp
ner this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Vaughn spent
several days in the mountains last
week gathering the luscious huckle
berries. They met with such good
success that they will return there
in another week.
Vawter Crawford and Tom Chid
sey are spending a few days in the
mountains this week, hunting, fish
ing, picking huckleberries and other
wise enjoyng the recreative effects
of Blue Mountain air.
. Fred Ashbaugh, accompanied by
his wife and son paid Heppner a short
call Tuesday. Mr. Ashbaugh is a
thresherman of prominence in the
Hardman section, and has just recent
ly branched out into the saw mill
business.
Contractor Ed Buckman is busy
this week laying new concrete wains
along the front of the properties
owned by Mrs. Elizabeth J. Ayers and
A. L. .Ayers on Chase street. He Just
finished a considerable stretch of
walk iilong the A. M. Slocum proper
ties in west Hepptttr.
Oscar R. Otto left Wednesday for
a brief business trip to Portland.
Mrs. Frank J. Hopkins, formerly
Miss Zarah Snell, is visiting with rel
atives in Arlington this week.
Andy Rood and daughter, Miss
Millie, left last Saturday for a va
cation visit at Portland and the coast.
Leonard Carlson was In the city
Tuesday from his Gooseberry ranch
making preparations to start thresh
ing. Miss Evelyn Shipley returned Mon
day from a ten-days' visit at Portland
and Seaside and has resumed her po
sition in the sheriff's office.
W. P. Dutton returned to his Port
land home Wednesday after spending
a few days in Heppner attending to
business matters.
John Hiatt and family have re
turned to their Heppner home after
spending ten days at the Hiatt ranch
in the mountains.
Aaron Peterson and son Henry of
the Gooseberry section were in Hepp
ner Sunday. Mr. Peterson says his
grain made a much better yield than
he had anticipated earlier in the sea
son, the average yield was 15 hush
els per acre.
Ralph Benge, formerly extensive
wheat grower of Morrow county, was
in Heppner this week on a brief bus
iness visit. Mr. Benge owns a ranch
in the Six Dollar neighborhood which
is beng farmed at the present time by
Frank Parker.
E. P. Jarmon was in Heppner the
first of the week from his ranch on
Butter creek. He reports the hay
crop a little short this year owing to
the protracted dry spell. General
conditions in his locality are good in
spite of this according to Mr. Jarmon.
Lowell Twlchell, who has been
working with the Sherman Wakefield
harvest crew on Heppner Flat, met
with an accident Saturday morning
which will probably lay him off for
the next thirty days. The accident
occurred when he attemepted to
Jump from a header box to the spout
on the header. In some manner he
fell and dislocated an arm at the el
bow.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that
on the second Monday in September
(Monday, September 10th, 1917) the
Board of Equalization of Morrow
County, Oregon, will attend at the
Court House in Heppner, Morrow
County, Oregon, and publicly exam
ine the Assessment Rolls for Morrow
County, Oregon, for the year 1917,
and will correct all errors in valua
tion, description or qualities of lands,
lots or other property assessed by the
Assessor of Morrow County, Oregon,
for the year 1917.
All persons interested or having
any complaint against their assess
ment for the year 1917 should ap
pear at that time. Petitions for re
duction in assessment must be pre
sented in writing, verified by oath of
applicant or his attorney, and must
be filed with the board the firsl week
it is in session and any petition or
application not so made, verified and
filed shall not be considered or acted
upon by the board.
