PATRIOTIC SERVICE .
LEAGUE TO 8E FORMED
The Oregon Patriotic Service Lea
gue, which embraces in its organiza
tion the Oregon State Council of De
fense, is forming its various units
throughout the state. This League
will act as a clearing house for all
the organizations in Oregon. Bruce
Dennis, formerly of La Grande, is di
rector of the work.
Mr. Dennis, upon the suggestion of
County Judge C. C. Patterson, has
asked W. W. Smead to act as organ
izer for the Morrow county league
it is likely that Mr. Smead will accept.
The purpose of the Patriotic Ser
vice League is to build up efficiency
tn all industrial lines, placing them
ill a war basis, thereby making them
jf the greatest possible value to the
government in the presnt crisis.
A recent appointment made by Mr.
Dennis is that of W. B. Barratt to the
committee of live stock production,
Chas. B. Sperry and wife and Mose
Gambill and wife were in Heppner
Saturday, Mr. Gambill being called
here to take his physical examination
before the local exemption board.
Conductor Lewis of the Heppner
branch line, left Monday for a ten
day s vacation in Portland. He will
make a trip to the beach before re
turning home.

Saturday.
R. .J Carsner and wife, who live
near Spray, spent several days in
Heppner last week, where Mr. Cars
