Much Road Work in Progress.
The road sapervbors np and down
Willow creek and in many other
parts of the eonnty are quite busy
these days in abasias np the high
ways. A lot of grading is being
completed between Heppner and lone
and the road is being put in fine
shape. This is also tree In all direc
tions leading oat from the creek, and
a general stirring ap of the road beds
Is in progress. Many of the roads
are being placed on a grade and will
be turnpiked in good shape, making
them more permanent. The season
for road work is now very opportune
as the weather conditions are such
that but little work can be done in
the fields and this leaves more hands
and teams available.

Farmers of Morrow County who con
template making loans from the State
Rural Credits fund may secure blanks
and instructions by applying to the
State Land Board attorney for this
county C. E. Woodson, Heppner. It
Is also suggested by Dr. Hector Mac
pherson, of the O. A. C. department
of Rural Economics, who assisted in
drawing the bill, that the loans be
negotiated as soon as possible.
General interest rates are likely in
face of war conditions to rise as much
as one per cent in a few months, and
eventually put the federal loan meas
ure entirely out of business as well
as render the operation of the state
law much harder. Such has been
the course a British Columbia where
similar laws were enacted four years
ago but have not yet been put into
operation because of the war.
"A geat deal of contusion exists,"
says Dr. Macpherson, "as to how to
proceed to get a loan. Intending
borrowers should call up their coun
ty representative of the state land
board, who can supply them with
blanks and give instructions. Loans
may be made tor 10, 20, 30, or 36
year periods. Borrowers are advis
ed to take the 36 year loans, which
can be paid, principal and interest,
in 35 annual payments of six dol
lars each and one-the last-payment
of about ten: dollars. If able to pay
sooner they may pay as fast as they
please, and interest will be stopped
on all partial payments as soon as
made."
