The amount against the first des
cribed Darcel of land is 1433.00 with

under mortgage foreclosure on the
19th of August 1916 In a suit in the
Circuit Court of the 8tate of Oregon

Oregon Power Co. plans expendi
ture of $300,000 in Willamette Val
ley, the principal cities in which the
company operates being Albany, Eu
gene, Corvallis, Dallas and Marsh
field. It is hoped that the legislature
will not kill an industry such as sal
mon canning on the Rogue river sim
ply for the benefit of a few "sports
man." Such action would be a dis
grace to the whole state.
Railroad employes are beginning
to realize that in solving problems
growing out of transportation indus
try they will do better dealing direct
with managers than through politics.
Managers are learning that it pays
them to act fairly.
Roseburg Douglas county tax
levy 13.5 mills for 1917. Though
more than one mill greater than last
year, $20,000 less money will be rais
ed due to fact that $6,000,000 of O.
& C. Railroad land has been with
drawn from taxroll.
Mr. Corey of the Utility Commis
sion asks that "The Certificate of
Public Convenience & Necessity"
clause be added to present utility
act. It would encourage power de
velopment in state and would give
commission better control over uti
lities. Salem S. P. Co. petitions public
service commission for freight rate
to benefit canned goods from Ash
land and Intermediate points to Port
land. The present rate is 30 cents
per hundred from Ashland and the
rate asked by the company is 20
cents per hundred.
Qresham Outlook: The less poli
tics that there is in the Oregon legis
lature the better will It be for the
state. Let the men elected to repre
sent the people in the state legisla
ture work diligently and earnestly
tor Oregon and its people without re
gard to parties or policies. That will
be the best thing for the state.
