Threshing returns from a field of
oats on the Wtglitman brothers ranch
three miles below town show that this
field of grain averaged a little better
than 100 bushels per acre. Esti
mates ranging from 35 to 100 bu
shels to the acre had been made by
various people, but it seems that all
the estimates were to low,
an irrigated field.
Robert H. Young and La Verne Van

Spokane, Wash,, October 18. One
hundred thousand apple pies will be
given away to visitors at the ninth
National Apple show, in Spokane,
November 20 to 25, it is announced
: by Gordon C. Corbaley, manager of
the show.
I "Every one entering the apple pa
;lace will be given a pie hot from the
'oven," states Mr. Corbaley. "We are
going to show the people that we not
only to have apples to look at but bot
' ter to eat.
"A model kitchen is being installed
In the apple show enclosure, and six
large ovens working night and day
will turn out pies by the mile. Our
ovens will have a capacity of 10,000
a day, and we shall commandeer a.f
number of restaurant ranges if the
crowds come too fast."
