A. A. McCahe, well known vest end

Dr. McMurdo reports Sam McCol
lough recovering nicely from a gevere
attack of pneumonia.
L. B. Ashbaugh was called to Pend
leton the past week on account of
the death of a friend there.
Martin Lovgreen, Eight Mile far
mer, took out a new Buick Six from
the Heppner garage this week.
Walter Cochran, editor of the lone
Independent, spent the fore part of
the week in this city on business.

Robert Dexter of upper Hinton
creek is reported to be recovering
nicely from his protracted Illness.
Hanson Hughes returned last
Thursday evening from Portland
where he went on a brief business

the week from his ranch on Butter
creek.
There will be preaching at the
Federated church Sunday evening.
Mrs. Berwick will speak. Everyone

Mrs. Andy Stevenson was taken
suddenly 'ill on Saturday night, but
we are. glad to say her condition is
much Improved at this time.
George Krebs, extensive Skinner
creek stockman, went to La Grande
this week to buy In an Isolated tract
which he had advertised for sale.

Chas. and Ed Pointer of Lexington
were Heppner business visitors Tues
day. Chas. Pointer informs us that
he is now busy putting in his 1917
crop.
J. Spencer Crawford of this office
spent Sunday with friends at Morgan.
He was a guest at dinner on that day
at the homeof Mr. and Mrs. Swen
Troedson.
Miss Cecile Sylva returned to her
ome in Oakland, California last Mon
dayday, after visiting for two months
at the home of Frank Fraters of
Eight Mile.
J. S. Buseick, prominent Grant
county stockman, Is spending the
vpck in Heppner on business. Mr.
Buselcl; reports conditions good in
his country.
Miss Nellie Franklin returned to
her homo In Portland Tuesday after
spending the summer at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. D. O. Justus on up
per Hinton creek.

Last week Frank Turner sold his
ranch Northeast of this city, to John
Kilkenny, well known sheepman. We
understand that Mr. Turner received
a very flattering price for the land.
Omar Stanton of Hardman was a
business visitor in our city Tuesday.
Mr. Stanton is making preparations
to retire at least for a time from
the farming game. He and his broth
er Chas. will hold a public sale at the
Chas. Stanton ranch on Saturday Oct.

Burton H. Peck, well known dry
land farmer who resides In the Rhea
creek district, has purchased the Ora
M. Yeager residence property on
Gale street. He expects to move his
family to town in order that his child
ren may take advantage of our excel
lent school.
Dr. A. P. Culbertson and Mrs. W.
M. Allison left on Saturday for
South Dakota and Michigan. Mrs.
Allison will visit with relatives at
Brookings, S. D. and Dr. Culbertson
will go on to Crystal Michigan. They
expect to be absent from Heppner
most of the winter. George N. Peck
and wife will live in the Allison resi
dence on Church street.
Arrangements are under way for
one of the best wrestling matches
ever staged in this city. Manager
Sparks announces that Frank McCar
roll of Pendleton will meet either
Ted Thye or Tony AJax in the opera
house on either Nov. 11 or 18th. The
exact date has not yet been flixed.
As an added attraction, Mr. Sparks
has made arrangements to run a Se
llg film athletic feature showing all
the world's champions in boxing,
wrestling and athletic feats.
