BOARDMAN NEWS NOTES
Will and David Hynd, with their
sister, Miss Annie spent the week end
ou a visit at the home of Chas. Hyud
at Ukiah. The third crop of alfalfa
on the Hynd ranch is now ready for
cutting and will soon be put into the
stack. These boys have fine crops
of hay this season.

Monday being Labor Day, the Gov
ern meat men were laid off.
Mike Crafton from Portland spent
Sunday with S. H. Boardman.
H. A. Frick received a telegram
Friday calling him to Hermiston.

Miss Clara Voyne with H. O. War
ner and wife were callers at the Allen
home Friday.
Mrs. H, A. Frick went to Hermiston
Thursday to visit here sister-in-law

Miss Emma Pfeifer drove over to Co
yote Monday evening.
The O-W. R. & N. recently made a
trial trip over the Coyote Cut-off with
80 loaded freight cars.
J. E. Ellis of Ukiah was in town
Tuesday looking over the project
with a view of buying.
Mrs. P. Koohler was in Arlington
Friday to consult a doctor. She re
turned In the afternoon.
Pete Koohlers moved his tents to
Messner Sunday to be nearer to the
Government camp, where he works.
Boardman school will start Sep
tember II with Miss Clara Voyne as
teacher. About 20 will be enrolled.
Roy Rand moved his family into
town Monday. They have been camp
ing ont by the old government camp.
Win, Kenedy of Hermiston, one of
the Boardman townsite promoters,
spent Tuesday in town between
trains.
The general superintendent of the
O-W. R. 1sT. in his private car
stopped at Boardman two hours Mon
day afternoon.
S. A. Barnes and son have finished
plastering one of the rooms in the
Blayden-Mack building. It is now
ready tor the front and shelves.
The Blayden family received the
sad news of the death of an old friend
Mrs. Gertrude Whittemore while on
the boat coming down from Alaska.
Panl Ruddy received a telegram
Wednesday telling of the serious ill
ness of his father in Portland. He
left on a speeder for Arlington, where
he caught No. 11.
Saturday evening Boardman was
visited with a heavy wind and dust
storm which later turned Into a driv
ing rain. No damage has been re
ported by anyone in this locality.
N. C. Jensen and R. W. McShane off
Portland drove through here in their
car Wednesday. They are well drill
ing contractors and have 7 machines
in varioas localities. They expect
to move one here soon.
Mrs. E. B. Trumball left for Port
land Friday on No. 2 to be under the
care of a doctor. Mrs. Trumball's
json, Vaughn C. Flltchcraft came In
I from Umatilla Monday and accom
panied her to Portland.
f Lyle Blayden, son of Mr. and Mrs.
G. C. Blayden, left early Saturday
for Weiser, Idaho where he will at
tend the Idaho Intermountain Insti
tute this winter. The term opens
Sept. 6.

F. M. Atkinson, of Fort Collins,
Colo., has arrived in Heppner to take
up his duties as manual training in
structor in the local high school. Mr.
Atkinson is a graduate of the Color
ado Agricultural College and comes
well flitted to teach the subjects as
signed to him. He will also have
charge of the athletics.

W. B. Smith, who served as pastor
at the Federated church the past
year, has been transferred by the Co
lumbia conference recently In session,
to Weston. His place here will be
taken by Rev. Lewalling. Rev. Lew
ailing has a wife and one child. Rev.
A. L. Thurman is now presiding El
der and Rev. Coan is appointed to the
pastorate at Lexington.

J. L. Teager, well known local man
returned Sunday evening from a two
months' visit spent In Kansas and
Missouri. Mr. Yeager says the corn
crop in Kansas is a failure this year,
but otherwise business is good in the
middle west. He was glad to return
home after passing through one of
the wannest seasons that section hag
endured for years.

ifornia, is a guest at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. E. D. Brown in this city,
Mrs. Davies being a niece of Mr.
Brown's. This is the first time Mr.
Brown has seen his niece' In 17 years.
Mrs. Davies teaches school In Califor
nia and has been visiting relatives in
Oregon daring her vacation.
Vic Baldwin and wife have gone to
GrangevilLe, Idaho, for the remain
