BUICK DESIGN
BUICK VALVE-IN-HEAD POWER
The Tightness of the Euick Valve-in lead motor and
not the enthusiasm of its salesmen has made the Buick
conspicuous for leadership.
This new four has a Buick Valve-in-Head motor (with
electric starter) which develops thirty-five horse power
on brake test and is so reliable for ruggtd service that no
eulogy is necessary among "men who know Buick."
13 lines are beautiful. . Finish and color are exception
al. Deep, tufted black genuine leather upholstery. Cov
ered floor and running board, with aluminum bindings,
give a trimness of appearance that is peculiarly Buick.
Body, hood, feeders and running gear are painted a
glossy, long-w .ring black; wheels are black with white
stripes. Tires 31x4 inches.
Morrow People After Land.
Franklin S. Barlow, Cecil M. Lut
kins and Harry L. Green of Heppner
were here Tuesday. They made some
homestead filing on lands in Catlow
valley, Harney county. They report
ed wheat crops fine in the Heppner
country and say that farmers gener
ally are in a most properous condi
tion. Caynon City Eagle.
Campaigning Vmler Difficulties.
Robert Hodge, republican candi
date for governor of Washington,
wound up an eventful campaign trip
Sunday by burning up his auto and
a field of grain near Pomeroy, Wash
ington. A few days before, he re
mained in Echo all day to have new
bearings installed in his car, and pre
vious to that he spent a night sleep
ing out with the coyotes in the John
Day country because his lamps quit
on him. Hodge may be a good cam
paigner but he is a poor chauffeur.
Echo News.
Pendleton's latest Industry, the H.
W. Collins wheat cleaning plant and
elevator on West Webb street, has
started the work of cleaning a large
share of the wheat of eastern Oregon
and southern Washington. The plant
is running days now and shortly will
be operated day and night with two
full crews of men. Fifteen men are
employed at the plant at present.
The work of the plant is pronounc
ed to be perfect by experts who have
viewed it. Wheat in a very smutty
condition is turned out of the ma
chine white and clean and ready for
the mill without additional scouring
of washing. The plant has a capacity
of cleaning and smutting between 400
and 500 tons of wheat daily.
As to how much wheat will be ta
ken caw of, by the Collins cleaner it
is impossible to estimate. Should
the European war bo brought to a
close and wheat sent to the Pacific
coast points again the plant would
be of little use excepl for local pur
poses. Tbn cleaner and elevator is the
largest In eastern Oregon and the in
terior. Pendleton E. O.
the trail thoroughly placarded. The
civic organizations of Pendleton, Pilot
Rock and Heppner arc co-operating
in the matter and reaching out for
that business which might just possi
bly become routed in some other di
rection. Salem iMessenger.

At the election two years from this
November there wi'l be a United
States senator to e jet to the place
now held by Harry Lane. The posi
tion is one of importance and the very
best man available should have it.
Oregon has not a man that is better
qualified than N. J. Sinnott, present
congressman from this district. Ho
has had experience; he is on the job
every minute; he gets results and no
better recognition can be given the
service he has rendered his state than

years hence. Sinnott is the Borah

Chas. Dahlke had his leg amputat

Some time ago he had a corn remov
