ami the clay was greatly enjoyed.
Tlie big rain of Sunday night and
Monday was much appreciated by the
farmer folk down this way. There
was no great need so far as moisture
is concerned, but a crust had formed
on many fields that needed to be
I softened up. Grain is growing well
as the warmer days have been bene
I ficial. Some complaint has been
I'.eard of cut worms but we have been
unable to confirm reports of serious
damage. There Is every prospect of
a large yield of grain over the north
end of the county this season and
many look for a repetition of the
1907 yield which was one of the best
ever produced, both as to quantity
and quality.
Mr. Robert Service, republican
candidate for nomination to the of
fice of Public Service Commissioner,
was a visitor in our city yesterday.
Ilis home is at Baker. Those who had
the pleasure of meeting Mr. Service
and conversing with him were thor
oughly convinced of the high char
acter of the gentleman, and of his
special fitness for the place he seeks
as well. He certainly made a good
impression here and should get many
votes in this end of the county. Af
?er becoming acquainted with Mr.
Service and his platform, the writer
is convinced that he is the one among
all those running, who is eminently
qualified to take a place on this im
portant commission.' He is putting
his case in the hands of the common
people, and we feel sure that if he
can succeed in getting his position
before them there will be no ques
tion of his nomination.
HIGH SCHOOL PARAGRAPHS
(Continued from First Page)
goes to show that some students play
better in different positions.
Vawter Crawford played 2nd, Da
vid Wilson 3rd, and Ole Peterson at
short. All three played a good gs -.a.
.Mclntyre in left field made some fine
catches. Ingram at first and Smith
at center field played like old vet
erans. Aiken at right field was right
there on chasing flies. Hayes as
catcher, can't be beat. With a little
more practice the whole team will
be hard to brat. A good crowd at
tended. The next game will be played at
i lone on Saturday, April 15. This is
the last game of the season, making
three games in all.
