Notice is hereby given that, where
as the Heppner Commercial Club,
has been communicating with tne
Fourth Assistnat Post Master Gener
al at Washington, D. C. for the pur
pose of establishing the Mall Route
between Hardman, Oregon, and Mon
ument, Oregon, and it appears from
such communications that such Mail
Route was discontinued for the only
reason that the bids submitted to
carry the mail on such Mail Route,
were excessive. It Is therefore neces
sary in order to enable the Commer
cial Club to further carry on the mat
ter of re-establishing such Mail Route
that such Club have an understand
ing as to the cost of carrying the mail
on such Mall Route.
The Heppner Commercial Club
will, therefore, receive bids for car
rying the mail on the Mail Route ex
tending from Hardman, Oregon, to
Monument, Oregon, such bids to be
filed with the Secretary of the Hepp
ner Commercial Club, at Heppner,
Oregon, on or before the first day of
July, 1915.

Mrs. John Hibler and children
went to Hermiston Monday afternoon

Mr. H. L. Wyckoff and son went to
Hermiston Monday afternoon, return
ing to Irrigon Tuesday morning.
William Kurtz came up from Port
land Tuesday morning. He will work
at the government camp this sum

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Carson came
down from Hermiston Sunday and
spent a couple of days with Mr. and
Mrs. Harvey Wolfe.

Walt Smith of lone was a Lexing
ton caller Sunday.
Rufus Cochran, of -lone, was a
Lexington caller last Saturday.
Sheriff McDuffee was a Lexington
caller Saturday on official business.
N. S. Whetstone, of Heppner, was
a business caller in Lexington Satur
day. C. A. Rhea, a pioneer resident of
the county, was a passenger to Port
land Saturday.
An all-night rain Thursday was a
great help to growing grain in this
part of the country.
Mrs. E. Evans -returned from Spo
kane Friday where she has been vis
iting relatives the last month.
Mrs. Ionia Gilbreath and son, ot
Dayton, Wash., are visiting her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. White,
Wm. Stauffer went to his home at
Hood River for a few days. He will
return before harvest commences.
Chas. Burchell went to the Rose
City Tuesday to visit his father and
mother, who still live in that city.
Ralph Benge made a business trip
to Pendleton last week. He reports
crops looking favorable in that coun
ty. Miss Florence Miller, who has
been visiting her father for the past
four months returned to Salem Sun
day. Mrs. Rosa Eskelson returned Mon
day from Shippard Springs where she
went some time ago for the benefit
of her health.
Frank Evans and family returned
Saturday from an auto trip to Mil
ton, where they spent several days
visiting relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Roblnett and
Willie Duran took a fishing trip in
the Hardman country and returned
last Sunday evening.
E. A. Pointer started Saturday
morning for McMinnville to attend
the state encampment of the G. A. R.
which meets at that place.
Mrs. E. J. McAlister went to Port-
'and Monday. She was accompanied
by her grandson, Welcome McAlister
who will spend the summer with his
aunt, Mrs. Byers, who lives near Sa
lem.
J. W. Beckett and wife, of Eight
Mile, were in Lexington Monday. Mr.
Beckett has Just finished a new well
an his farm, getting a good flow of
water at a depth of ZbO feet. W. D.
Newlon did the work.
Andrew Reaney hau ;ust Installed
a new gasoline pumping outfit on
his ranch north of town and Is now
giving his well a fair test. As a re
sult he is now of the opinion that
he has enough for stock use on his
ranch.
Saturday was a busy day for mer
chants In this village. Many farmers
were in trading. The reports of the
rain last week in different sections of
the country indicate that this rain
was most welcome at this stage of
the grain crop development.
Harry Miller returned home Sat
urday from Corvallis where he has
been attending the agricultural col
lege the laBt two years. His two sis
ters and two brothers came with
him and will spend the summer at
the home of their father, E. C. Mil
ler. Geo. White, who owns a farm 5
miles north of Lexington, is feeling
very proud over his new well, which
has Just been drilled. A fine flow of
water was found at a deptn ot lbu
feet and the'test showed 1000 gal
lons per hour. The well was drilled
