Sheep Grazing in Wallowa National Forest.
NOT A SMALL TART of the work being done by the Forest Service of the United States Department of
Agriculture is for the benefit of the stock industry. All of the national forests are conserved for grazing
purposes where adapted and through care and improvement of the grazing lauds the Government hopes
to confer a lasting benefit upon the live stock industry.
In the past the Wallowa National Forest has been overstocked aud overgrazed, but last season an appropria
tion of $10,500 was made for a reconnaissance study of the Wallowa Forest, with the result that the correct
capacity of the range is being determined. Scientific management will theu be possible.
The above photograph is of sheep grazing in a coyoe-proof pasture iu the Wallowa National Forest. The
lambs, it may be interesting to note, are one-half Shropshire.
