Students Receiving Practical Instruction at Agricultural College.
PRACTICAL INSTRUCTION is the aim of the Oregon Agricultural College at Corvallis,
and the Washington Agricultural College at Pullman, and no time is spared nor money
in giving the students first hand knowledge in the lines of work taught. In the above
picture is showm a class of students at the Oregon Agricultural College at a practical demon
stration of the care of sheep. A great deal can be found in books treating of the sheep's
care, methods of shearing, etc., but there is always lacking a vital portion of the instruction
if the students cannot be shown the operations they read about as carried out on real sheep.
The same applies to the care of horses, stock, pigs, etc., and both Oregon and Washington
Universities possess large farms for the purposes of experimentation in livestock and for
practical demonstration. It is needless to say that the policy of first hand knowledge is
carried out as well in fanning methods, as far as the climate will permit with regard to
variation of crops.
