About April 1st, when G. A. Cobb agreed to make tha raee for Democratic
nomination for
GOVERNOR
a number of others had been in the field for some time practically cover
ing the state, securing the pledges of supporters everywhere.
Newspapers were heralding the name of their choice throughout the
State, and it really looked a little hard for a new candidate to break into
the field.
But three weeks haB brought about a decided change.

today with a good safe majority, and is gaining ground fast.
We have not asked a single person to pledge himself to support Mr.
Cobb for that would not be fair. It would be like asking a juror to
pledge his verdict before the witnesses had all been heard.
We have no big daily papers to favor us with their columns daily.
We have no Interests to favor us exeept the COMMON INTEEB8T of
all the good people of the State, of Oregon.
We submit to you herewith Mr. Cobb's platform and principles upon
which he is running and

Spring Preparations For Creameries

attractiveness of the creamery, should
be set out at this time, and the flower
beds put in order. The machinery
should be subjected to a thorough over
hauling and if new apparatus is re
quired, it should be procured and in
stalled before the arrival of the busy
season.
If a new floor is needed, it should
be put in at this time. It is also the
proper time for painting the walls and
ceiling, if it is necessary, and there
are few creameries at this season where
such treatment would not be beneficial.
More time is now available and can be
better spared than at any other season
for any necessary repair work. In short,
spring is the time to give attention to
all matters affecting the efficiency of
the plant.
Adjust Conditions.
One of the most important things in
the management of a creamery is to
adjust conditions and methods so that
they are at all times in harmony with
the requirements of thj prevailing sea-

In the BDrine of the vear there are
many things which should be given spe
cial attention by the buttermaker and
the creamery manager. If the spring
cleaning has not been done, it should
be attended to without delay, for the
huav season will soon be Here toe sea
son of long days and hard work when
there will be no chance to attena to
anything but the regular everyday
duties. The surroundings of the cream
ery should be cleared 01 all ruDDisn;
drives, flowerbeds, etc., should be put
in nrooer order so that the factory may
present a tidy and attractive appear
ance. In the creamery proper, ue waus,

need washing and the refrigerator re
quires thorough cleaning.
Hints on Work.
Perhans the entire building needs
painting both inside and outside. The
doors, the windows and the receiving
room or intake should be properly
screened. If the receiving room is left
open, thousands of flies will enter the
building through the doors and win
dows; hence, where the building Is so
arranged that the intake can not be
screened, it should be changed with
out delay.

during the months of May and June.
In most cases the churning temperature
can be reduced from four to sis de
grees from that in use during winter.
When the cows have been turned out
on pasture the color of the butter will
be increased naturally from day to
day and the amount of artificial color

accordingly.
