Water Oo. will be the widening of
Stansbury canyon. Not only will it
be widened but will also be straight

Chase and Uanon streets. This means
that about twenty feet will be cnt off
of the point just below the Catholic
church.
Rev. Charles Quinney returned last
evening from Heppner where he went
to coriduct the funeral of Mrs. Annie
Hyud, who diertatSfnd Hollow on
Tuesday last. Mrs Hynd eaves five
sous and two daughters to mourn hr
loss. Her husband died a little more
than a year ago at the age -of 85.

Earl Rankin and wife of Pilot Rock
came over from the Umatilla town
Friday and spent the week-end with
Mr. Rankin'a parents, Mr. and Mrs
H. B. Rankin. Mr. Raukin is in th
garage business with Marvin Roy in
Pilot Rock Mr. Roy attended high
school in this oity in 1911.
Pastor Williams of the lone Christ
ian church preached a very thought
ful and instructive discourse at the
Christian church in this cltv last
Sunday evening. Thin was Mr.
Williams first visit to onr city and
he expressed himself as much pleased
with what he saw.

from Albany last Thursday. Mr.
Hendricson has been at Albany and
the coast ever since last July in hopes
that a change of climate would im
prove his health. The change proved
very beneficial and hia condition has
greatly improved.

regard to all his Morrow county
friends as well as remitting for an
other year of the Gazette-Times. He
reports everytiiing well with him.
Business conditions all over the
northwest are said to be in excellent
condition and greaUv improved over
what they were earlier in the season.
Those in position to know say business
is good and the prospects for the
future are very flattering.
L. M. Woodworth, who has been
engineer on the branch for the past
three years has been transfered to a
passenger run on the Deschnttes
branch. His family will reside at
The Dalles to which point they
moved Tuesday.
Jimmie Oowins reoeived a dis
located knee this week, while en
gaged in a wrestling contest with Jim
Adkins. He has given up the wrest
ling game for the time being and is
getting around only by the aid of
walking sticks.
George Thomson and wife arrived
home last night and were warmly
welcomed by their many friends

their honeymoon in California.
Mrs. D. M. Goodrich of San Pedro
California, passed through Heppner
Tuesday on her way to Monument to
visit with friends. Her husband was
formerly sujierlntendent of water
works at Monument.
Rev. H A. Van Wiukle of the
Christian churchjwho has been alck
with an aoute attack of gastritis for
the past ten days, is now rapidly im
proving and will be able to take up
his work again.
S. W. Spencer and wife and Mrs,
Lafe Penland. a well known stock
mau of this city was seriously Injured
and three other occupants in the same
buggy were badly bruised in a run
away at the top of Heppner Hill last
Monday evening about 5 o'clock.
Mr. Penland left Heppner for his
ranch in company with his daughter,
Mrs. Pearl Oox. and Mrs. Floyd and
daughter. They were barely on top
of Heppner Hill and going down tbe
canyon on the other si ie when a
voung mare whioli Mr. Penland was
driving, suddenly began to kick. She
was nocontrolable, and after getting
over the tongue both horses started to
run. The buggy, which was oo a
high grade at the time, turned turtle
and it was in this turn that the occu
pants were thrown out and injured.
Mr. Penland received internal injuries
and op to this time it has been im
possible to bring him to town. The
ladies received onlv minor Injuries,
and with the exoeptinn of a few bad
bruises escaped unhurt
The buggy was smashed to pieces
and the horses were not found until
late the next day.
Mrs. Floyd la a young woman whom
Mr. Penland had engaged as a cook
on one of his ranches.

Mrs. Frank Cramer left on Monday
for Castle Rock to visit her daughter. I

H. A. Emery and Alex Warren are
down on Rock creek making wood.
