The date of the Seventh Annual
Fair of the Third Eastern Oregon
Agricultural Society ia set for Sep
tember 23 to 28. That time Is not far
off. The exhibit frim Mot row county
so far has not put in its appearance
and those who are interested in giving
our section a good boost at the fair
realize the necessity of Retting huy.
Farmers, stockmen, get busy and col-
lec tlie best von bave from crops and
flocks, bring your stuff to D. 0. Gut-
dune at Hpponer or deliver to J. T.
Knapoenberg at Ine and it will be
looked after. Remember that the
Tri-county fair follows the Morrow
Umatilla fair and all grains and other
non-perishable products can be shinned
from Pendleton to Condon and thus
save you the work of gathering two
exhibits. Morrow county haa never
failed to carry away the majority of
premiums at Pendleton and there is
no reason why an exhibit this year
should not prove superior to previous
exhibits. Pick oat yoar best samples
f grain, grasses, frnit, vegetables, in
fact anything that goes to make a
oitable exhibit. Mr. Gordaue has
on hand a large supply of premium
ists which he is mailing oat to Mor
row onnnty people as he can and if
yon have not yet received a copy you
can get one at the store ot Hendricson
& Gnrdane- $2000. 00 will be distrib-
ted in cash premiums this ' year.
These premiums are offered far agri-
ultnral, mineral and stock exhibits,
works of art, fancywork. and other
novel features. It is well worth your
ime to select an exhibit and see that
noes into the Moirow county booth
Pendleton. Thousands of people
ill be there to take in the fair and
the Round-up and among them will
be
many Eastern people who are
Iwavs anxious to see Vshat the West
ern country raises. Not a few of
thesa people take samples home with
them and thus an - inexpensive bit of
advrtisina is done that oounts for
more than any highly colored litera
ture sent out. Get busy friends and
show the outside world that Morrow
county is the place where real show
stuff is raised.
If vou are a patron of the motion
picture show yon have, no doubt,
read thejsign : "If our show pleases
yon, tell others; if not, please tell
as. " That sentence contains good
business sense that should be applied
to other lines ot business as well as
the show. If vour grocer, butcher,
merchant, barber, laundrvman, in fact
every place with which you do busi
ness, should be dealing you out a
brand of goods or civing you service
which does not appear risht to you,
vou owe it to that party to tell him
your grievance. Dun't tell everv
Tom. Dick and Harry you meet on
the street that so and so isn't square,
or that his service no lunger meets
voar approval, but go to that partv
and tell him your grievance. ' Any
sensible business man will appreciate
Tour effort and no doubt will profit
by it. He is the one who should
know that his servioe is not satisfac
tory, and by telling him whether it
pleases or not yon will fee giving him
an opportunity to correct his mistakes
before others become dissatisfied and
quit doing business with him.
Word ot Appreciation.
We desire in behalf of the board of
stewards of the M. E. church South to
express a word of appreciation ot the
faithful ministry of our church.
Bro. Warren and his wife have been
with u for three years and in leaving
for another field of labor, they carry
with them the best wishes of many in
Heppner and surrounding country . even
out aide of the church but on the inner
circle he was most beloved. He ha
been untiring in his zeal and fidelity.
The whole community is made better
by the ministry of such a man. We
desire to state also that altho his sal
ary has been less than he earned, the
report at our quarterly conference
held last Saturday show that we have
paid him in Heppner and Eight Mile
for thia present year approximately
one thousand dollars, this include
the appropriation from our board of
mission to this field. We wish
Brother and Sister Warren God speed
where ever they may be sent another
year and hope to have them with us
again some time in the future.

Among these are the competitive
showing of farm products grown by
school children of the state and the
exposition of Eugenics,. both of which
are arousing wide interest.
President W. 0. Brown, of the
New York Central lines told Portland
people the past week that while the
farms of the country have increased
their products 33 per cent, consump
tion of the necessities has incresed 60
per cent during the past ten years and
unless some remedy is found to equal
ize the two the people of the United
States will face a crisis before long.
He urged the need of improved agri
cultural methods.
Loganberry culture, a new industry,
ia growing to large proportions in this
state. At Brooss alone, 34,000 crates
were shipped to a Portland cannery,
netting the owners $31,0 0.' A total
of 37 cars of loganberries was shipped
from Brooks this year The acreage
given to this frail is constantly on the
increase. One man-will set 200 acres
in Polk county during the Fall and
plana to instal.l canning, drying and
bottling machinery.
Hotel men of the state have launch
ed a campaign to attract Eastern
tourists to Oregon. At a recent
meeting of the state association, it
was decided to oarry ou extensive
advertising and publicity work thru
out the East to show the sceuio beau
ties of the Paoifio Northwest to the
intending traveler. It is the olan to
distribute many folders and nieces of
attractive lirerature illustrating this
subject.
The prpulation of Oregon is to be
increased between 30,000.000 and 35,
000,000 this year only the newcomers
are young salmon and not tieup'e.
Tnat number of baby salmon will be
liberated into the streams of the state
from the varices hatoheries. The
Isb, when released, will be from five
to eight months old and are expected
to be able to fight their own battles
thereafter.
