School Notes.
By Sii.it. Notsou.)
On the 5th inst., accompanied by
the editor of the Gazette-Times, I
visited the soliool in District No. 17.
Here Mrs. Sylva Missildine and ten
pupiils were busy closing up the
work of the week. The pupils have
nliinted several rose bushes and also
have some school gardenB under way.
Since my last visit, a new stove has
been placed in the room; new window
boards provided for the windows; a
good well suuk in the yard, equipped
with a good pump. The pupils of
this school are preparing to enter the
school contest.
On the 9th and 10th, I visited" the
school at Irrigon. Prof. Kicker and
Miss Park feel that the pupils have
made excellent progress this vear.
The pupils are acquiring the Palmer
system of writing. I noted some
excellnet work in niaD-drawing. Mies
Park Sireots the industrial work in"
sewing, mat-weaving, and basket
making. The building has been
painted recently, throughout. The
walls and ceilings are a light cream
color, which makes the reflected light
soft. This is quite an advantage to
the eyes." A fine flag floats from a
new steel flag-pole. The water supply
is kect in closed stone water tank,
and the pupils have individual cups.
The pupils are enthusiastic over the
school contests. The next school wns
the one at Castle Rock. This is a
small school, only six pupils being
in attendance. The pi.pi.ls of this
school are also acquiring the Palmer
svstem of writing under the direction
of Prof. J. A. Gibbons. This school

the rare quality of popularizing classics, simplifying them with
out having to make apologies to their builders.
While his nros-rams are miscellaneous, each number natural-

view of his audience, telling an appropriate story the while.
Pencilling finished, he turns quickly to the table mirror to ad

the representation. You will De
