carefully selected for the occasion
and lasted nearly two hours. The
auditorium was tilled to capacity and
the large crowd showed every evi
dence of enjoying the entire program.

Mrs. C. K. Glasgow entertained

birthday. Singing patriotic songs
and playing various games with re
freshments made up a very pleasant
afternoon.
Klanllold vs. Irrigon played a game
of basketball in the Irrigon commu
nity gym Saturday evening, followed
by a big dance after the game. Stan
lield won by a score of 19 to 37 but
boys enjoyed the game nevertbe-

The railroad company announces
as effective March 1st, new system
of insurance on baggage checked. It
will afford the patrons of the com
pany declaring value on their belong
ings to any amount they may consid
er their baggage worth, for which a
fee of ten cents will be charged for
every $100 or fraction ever $100, al
lowed free without excess charges.
The new arrangement will not change
the usual free allowance of 150
pounds with each full ticket provid
ing value does not exceed $100 and
the declaration of such value must be
ma.de in each case in writing when
baggage is offered for checking. The
new nrangoment is is a privilege of
and exceptional value to the traveling
public, and while new in this western
territory, has been tried out on sev
eral of the eastern roads and passen
gers have been eager to take advan
tage of the privilege.
The six week's examinations are in
progress at thehighschool this week.
The large dwelling on Main street
formerly owned by Scott Osborne
has been sold to Joe Howell.
There will be a barn dance at Jim
rsurnside's ranch Saturday evening.
February 2 5th. Quite a good many
from Hardman are invited.
Glenn Hadley gave a dance for his
Hardman friends and others at his
home near Hardman last Saturday
evening. All reported a good time.
The home of Gaylord Ingram
caught fire recently but was put out
before much damage was done.
There was a debate recently on
the abolishment of capital punish
ment between the Senior and Soph
omore English classes. The decision
went to the Seniors who represented
the affirmative side.
