Miss Lovelle Lucas, who is taking
a musical course in St. Mary's aca
demy, in Portland, is here spending
the holidays with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. J. F. Lucas.

Heppner has had water, wa
ter everywhere lately only in
the mains and service pipts
of the city water system. Frost
busted water pipes together with a
breakdown at the pumping plant are
responsible for the shortage.
Miss Ruth Van, Vactor, who has
been in Portltind since last June dur
ing which time she took a course at
a leading commercial college and
later matriculated at Reed College, is
here spending the holidays with her
parents and other friends whose
names are legion.
Mrs. Frederic is here from Carson,
Washington, making a holiday visit
with her daughter, Miss Norma Fred
eric. t(he popular and efficient cash
ier at the local telephone office. Mrs.
Frederic has many friends here ii"
tho staying at Carson temporarily
still calls Heppner her home.
I.. N. Traver, of the firm of Snook
& Traver, who has the contract for
the Elks building and the new hotel,
returned Friday from Salem where

he spent the cold weather with his
family. Mr. Traver says Salem was
pretty hard hit with the mercury
away below zero and 26 inches of
'now on the ground.
L. F. Cline, representing the Con
crete ripe Company of Walla Walla,
was In Heppner during the week In
the interest of his company. Mr.
Cline expects to submit a bid on con
struction of the Heppner city water
system and says he Is prepared to
prove that concrete pipe Is r.ie only
logical construction for such a line.

who are doing their bit to
maintain Heppner' reputation as
