WHACK AT OLD LIKE
Emmett Cochran, retired sheep
man, who used to be in the business
right but in lecent years "just keeps
a few bandB sticking around to sort
of fool wifh," got caught with a band
or two over on Rock creek when the
recent cold snap struck and had to
break the road end trail the sheep
across to lone to get some feed for
them. He lost two sheep during the
ordeal and they just plain froze to
death on the trail. Mr, Cochran says
it was colder down that way than in
Heppner being a regular thing of
from 26 to 35 below in the section
where he was operating. Some sheep
men down that way met with rather
heavy losses, Mr. Cochran says, one
of his acquaintances losing from 7 to
10 every night during the cold wave.
Mr. Cochran, who retired from the
sheep business several years ago,
doesn't call himself a s'neepman any
more but Just sort of "fools" with
the "woolies" for amusement and on
this one occasion he seems to have
gotten considerable "amusement"
out of the regular old time grind.
