Jenkins, H. Munger and John McNamee drove over from the banana belt city Sat urday morning and spent the day in the county seat. Mr. McNamee chaperoned the party in his new Buick six and the boys say he is a star driver. Mr. McNamee was look ing for sheep shearers to remove the winter coats from his band of wool- ies which he wintered on lower Butter creek and around the Board man project. Mr. Becker called at the Herald of fice and reported everything pros perous at Boardman. Some fields of alfalfa are already 14 inches high and growing apace. New people are arriving right along and the futruc of the - West Umatilla project is bright. DRUG SELLERS MUST REGISTER Under the provisions of the origin al Harison narcotic law, remedies or preparations which contain not more tlian two. grains of opium, or one fourth grain of morphine, or one fourth grain of heroin, or one grain of codeine fo the ounce, are exempt. This applies also to liniments, oint ments or other preparations for ei ternal use only. . However, as amended by the revenue act of 1918 all storekeepers who handle such preparations, even if their narcotic content exempts them from the pro visions of the Harrison act,, are re quired to register with the Collector of Interanl Revenue at Portland, and pay a tax of $1.00 a year or fraction al part thereof, and furthe, to keep records of all sales of such preparations. Many merchants in Oregon, other than retail druggists, carry such pre parations and they should immedi ately apply to Milton A. Miller, Col lector of Interan IRevenue, at Poret land, for the necessary banks to register. The tax is payable not later than April 25th, for the fiscal year end ing June 30th, 1919.
