    HEPPNER HERALD
FRIDAY. MAY 10, 1918
United Statss Senator Cltarles L.
iiiuhuij
Because United States Senator
Charles L. McNary has made
good he should be nominated to
succeed himself in the Republi
can primary May 17th.
From the day he became Sena
tor he hs loyally championed the
prosecution of the war, and dur
ing his term of office has accom
plished more for Oregon than any
other member in Congress in a
like period.
Among his colleagues he is
known as "the man on the job,"
and during the present war crisis
Oregon should consider itself for
tunate in having an opportunity
to return him and not be com
pelled to send to Washington a
'new, untrained man
Believing that the supreme ob
ligation he owes his country is to
help win the war, Senator Mc
Nary, intead of returning to his
State to conduct a political cam
paign, is at his post in Washing
ton working for Oregon and aid'
ing in the prosecution of the war,
Always since entering the Sen
ate ne nas oeen a mend ot our
Baptist church; educated in the
public schools; worked his way
through Stanford University; is
lawyer and farmer and has
been a life-long Republican. He
was formerly a Justice of the Su
preme Court and later chairman
of the State Republican Central
Committee.
Space iorbids further enumera
tion of the vast amount of work
Senator McNary has done for
Oregon, but anyone will realize
from the foregoing the Senator
has displayed truly remarkable
ability, coupled with extraordi
nary diligence and energy. His
native state can best show its ap
preciation of hi faithful and ef
ficient services by nominating
and electing him.
