S. E. Notson. The Irrigon school is making ex cellent progress under the direction of Prof. A. W. McCann and Miss Margaret Vince. Anew heating and ventilating plant has been installed in the primary room, and if it proves satisfactory, another will be purchased soon for the other room. A fountain attachment to the large water jar in sures sanitary conditions as to the water supply. Paper towels are pro vided for the pupils. An excellent equipment for manual training has been provided, and the pupils are enthusiastic over the work. The pu pils in the primary room are doing some good work in sewing and basket work. At Castle Rock, Prof. J. A. Gibbons is again at the helm. This school also has a patent heating and ventila ting plant. The floor has been oiled, and a supply of sweeping compound is provided. Paper towels are fur nished for the pupils. Anumber of improvement are contemplated. The pupils are making good use of one fea ture of play apparatus a croquet set. They are planning the construc tion of some other play apparatus. In District No. H9, Miss Lillian Troedson is the teacher. A new water fountain has been stalled recently. The floor has been oiled. This school also has a new set of maps and a fine new globe. In District No. 8, two teachers are now employed. Miss Esther Cox be gan the school, but the desire of some of the older pupils to take up the ninth grade work made it necessary to employ another teacher. Miss Erma Davenport was secured for the advance work. The new building and the premises are being put into the very best condition. Miss Anne C, Troedson teaches in District No. 16. The work of the term , is starting off nicely. The school was ... ; i xaLuci lute in upei.mg, owing to wie fact that Miss Troedson was in Eu rope when the war broke out and was not able to return as soon as she ex pected. Her pupils are enjoying some first hand information in regard to conditions on the other side of the Atlantic. Mr. Smead, having reasons best known to appear and answer the complaint by the Company and Mr. Smead. In answer to a letter written to Mr. Smead, by the 0. W.-R. & N., on August 24, and published in the Gazette-Times, as chairman of the committee I replied that this matter would be carried before the Railroad Commission and hoped and believed that they would be compelled to com ply with our requests. This committe has gone forward in this matter as instructed by the Commercial Club, and we believe that we can show the Railroad Commission that the O.-W. R. & N. Co. can put on a motor train in addition to the train now being run and yet have net earnings on the Heppner Branch to equal or exceed any similar road in Oregon. The revenue from passenger traffic alone which is 55 V4 cents per train mile practically pays for the opera tion of the train in being run and in addition to this has express, mail and of Plaintiffs filed against you in the above entitled court and cause on or before six weeks from the date of first publication of this summons and if you fai! to so appear or answer, Plaintiffs will apply to the. court for the relief prayed for in their com plaint, which is as follows: For judgment against the defend ants, L E. The Heppner Commercial Club at their meeting last Friday evening in structed Mr. S. E. Notson, to write to the Railroad Comm:js:on of Oregon as follows: FOR SALE OR TRADE I have a 33 horse power auto mobile, which has been run only a little over 18,000 miles and which is in first-class condition. I am offering this machine for sale or trade for the reason that I bought a larger car. This ma chine is equipped with electric lights and the motor has first class cooling and oiling systems. The motor is as good as new. The body of the car only needs a coat of paint to look like new. The machine will be turned over to the purchaser in good run ning order.
