saved the lives of three girls at

Fusion in Oregon.
Portland, Aug. 26. The confer
eiioe between tbe democratic state
committee and the populist represent
atives today resulted In a plain fusion
whereby but one electoral tloket will
be in the field. The democrats yielded
to the populists to put up electors who
would support Bryan and Watson.
The populists passed atroug resolutions
criticizing ex-Governor Peonoyer aud
demanding that the eleotors support
Watson instead of Bewail for vloe
president. To carry out this plan all
the democratic electors withdrew.
Two of the populist eleotors weru left
on the ticket, aud E. Hofer, of Salem,
a free silver republican, and N. L.
