"HIGH HANDED FRAUD.".
A call has been issued by leading
populists of Marion county for a meet
ing at Salem next Saturday. The call
will explain the situation:
"There Is ample proof that a high
handed piece of fraud and trickery is
being perpetrated under color of law,
whereby Hon. W. 8. Vanderburg, tbe
legally elected congressman for this
district, is being unlawfully and fraud
ulently counted out, and Hon. Thos.
H. Tongue counted In, contrary to tbe
expressed will of the majority of the
legal voters of this district.
"Therefore we call upon all good and
law-abiding citizens who believe in
honest elections, In an honest vote and
a fair count, to unite with us in a pub
lic mass meeting duly and lawfully
assembled, to take such measures as
may be necessary to protect the purity
of the ballot box, and to titter our pro
test and Indignation against the most
disgraceful attempt to defeat the will
of the people ever attempted in tbe
history of our state, and if allowed to
be oonsumated would be a lasting dis
grace to the name of our state.
"Therefore, all good citizens are re
quested to assemble at Marlon square
where good speakers will address the
assemblage."

WATERLOO TRUTH.
BY M'GINTY'S GHOST.
At lost the streets are beingimproved
by a good coat of gravel.
The Liberty nine has challenged the
Waterloo nine for a game of baseball,
and tbe game will be played next Sat
urday. '
We have ust recovered from the
effects of the election. It was such a
surprise that we caught that tired
feeling, but not like one of our citizens
who attended tbe Lebanon rally, and
on his homeward Journey, forgot where
he was.
Quite a crowd came in from the bills
on election day, and about noon con
gregated on. Broadway between the
Bowery and the Battery, They were
so excited talking about politics and
bow much they would bet, that tbe
ladles had to walk around them in the
street or cross over to Gibson to get by.
The marshall had to eat dinner that
day on time, the same as any other
day, and as we don't need any deputies
in a quiet town like thts, a blockade of
Shank's street car line was the result.
Waterloo is expecting a large crowd
tbe 4th. of July. We never fail to have
same kind of a Fourth If nothing more
than a rainy Fourth. Come everybody
and enjoy yourselves, as there is sure
to be fuu for somebody.
Body Found,
' Last Saturday morning between the
hours of 9 and 10 o'clock, the body of
little Chester Curtis, who was drowned
some six weeks ago, was found, at a
plaoe about one and a half miles from
where tbe soul departed this life, says
the Brownsville Times. The body
was found by the deceased boy's
father and brother, Lawrence, who
were going down the river in a boat,
as they had done several times before
Lawiep.ce discovered tbe body wbeu
some distance from it. It had caught
on a limb several feet from the bank,
the hip only being above the water.
Decomposition had set in.
