California's attempt to have the
Kentucky legislature knock out
the Huntington charter, discloses
the fact that Kentucky has troubles
of her own. The Kashville rail
road system has so thoroughly in
trenched itself in the Kentucky
state government, that it can take
care of Huntington's interests,
while protecting its own. There is
a fellow feeleng to be looked after.

A Washington spiritualist who
claims to have been successful here
tofore in similar predictions now
prophesies that Senator Cullom of
Illinois will be the next republican
candidate for president. Stranger
things .have happened, and if Cul
lom is nominated the prophet's
reputation will be greatly increased,
but he needn't expect many per
sons to place much faith in Lis
alleged foreknowledge. Cullom is
a very darE horBe indeed. 1
The sentence of Miss Flagler, of
Washington, who killed a colored
boy some months ago, and was
really guilty of manslaughter, to
three houre in jail, which she spent
with her family and friends in a
reception room, is calculated to
cast contempt upon the adminis
tration of justice. If the law de
manded her incarceration at all, it
demanded something more than an
empty formality. Such a proceed
ing, because the criminal is rich
and well-connected, is a mockery
of law, equity, and justice. Sun

. Tennessee last week. She returned to
Albany Saturday.
John Swink, P. L. Wallace, T. P.
McKniglit abd Geo. Davis sold their
potatoes last week for 16 cents per
bushel.
Walter Davis, tbe 18-year-old ton of
Geo. Davis, deserves much honor fur
tbe swift ride be made but week from
here to Albany, to get medicine for bis
mother. The ride was made in two
hours and forty-five minutes, consum
ing twenty minute in town getting
medicine. This was tbe quickest trip
ever made between tbis place and Al
bany, the round trip beiug 25 miles.
Last Monday being tbe day for
school election, the meeting convened
at two o'clock, with Hou. P. M. Scbere
iu tbe chair. After a speech from tbe
cbair the election was taken up. Mr.
Geo. Bon was nominated but refuted
to "run;" thereupon Scott Wallace and
chairman P. M. Scbere were nominat
ed. The- voting was as follows: P.
H. Scbere, 21 votes; Scott Wallace, 8.
P. H. Schere was therefore duly elect
ed director. Tbe vote for clerk was as
follows: Jacob .Allmond, 20 votes;
John Vrnnk, 8. Mr. Allmond was
duly elected clerk. Hon. P. M. Hcliere
has served three successful years as
director, and therefore tbe overwhelm
ing majority fur lite second term

and his great ability in tbe office of
director. Mr. Allmond is equally able
to fill the office of clerk, having been
elected seven successive terms. Several
ladles were present at tbe election.
