rived in Lebanon last Monday from

GRADUATING EXERCISE,
At an early hour last Friday
evening the assembly ball of the
Academy waa filled to its full
eating capacity by those assembled to
witness the first graduating exercise
of the Santlam Academy,
The exercise of the evening opened
with a piano duet, by Misses Bessie
and Katie Miller, and a solo by Miss
Ilda Elkins, which wa followed by
the oration of W. H. Ros,"The Power
of Habit." Mr. Ross' address showed
both research and originality, bring
ing forward In a forcible way mauy of
the results of habit.
Miss Ilda Elkins, In her discourse,
"Making the Best of Things," lent
shining rays of sunlight in many In
viting way through tbe mist and
lowering clouds, which hover o'er
life's path; and in her valedictory
touched on with beeoniliigdellcacy.the
last sweet, yet bitter, thought of the
closing school days.
Rev. J. H. Heat tie's address to the
class, waa well designed to show gome
of the great fields of possibilities before
each member and to Inspire In each
the resolve to gain all of the good
that lies within his grasp.
. The entire program was Inter
spersed by songs, duets and solos, by
Messrs. J. B. Marks and E. . Aldrlch
and Misses Hattie Warner and Ilda
Elkins. The audleuce dispersed with
good will and wishes for the future
success of the Santlam Academy and
Prof. Handle, under whose wise di
rection its late successes have been
achieved. After the graduating exer
cises we understand there was a ban
quet to which quite a number of fri
ends and old students of tbe Academy
were invited.
There were some beautiful boquets
and floral pieces sent from the audleuce
with good wishes to the graduates.

Tomorrow evening at the Academy
the Choral society will give a Grand
