were read ana approved.
The committee on health and police,
to whom was referred the matter of the
appointment of a nightwatchniau and
the erection of street lamps in certain
dark alleys and streets, reported as
follows: "After investigation we fiud
that no satisfactory arrangements can
mad, and would recommend that
th matter be dropped for th pre-
nt."
The recorder read a communication
i from J. W. Howell relative to the bur-
lamps, and upon motion the marshal
was instructed to ship the same at
once, aud by the same motion a sum
sufficient to prepay the freight charge
so Bslem was appropriated out of the
general fund.

read and upon motion was accepted
