Tlie matter of the title to the land
upon which the town of Kurth
Browns ille stands, which was filed
upon a few months ago by a man
named Munk, who essayed to gobble it
up under an alleged defect in title, the
facta of wliteh were published nt that
time, has been placed in the hands of
Representative Hermann by the citi
zens of North Brownsville. It involves
the title to the entire town. When the
town was located it was understood
that tlie title to the land was in the
Oregon & California Railroad Coinpa
uy, although originally assumed to be
in the state under indemnity school
land selections. Conveyances have
been made by the state as well as hy
the railroad company and lots sold
under these titles. The government,
however, declined to approve the state
as well as railroad selections, and tlie
people find themselves without valid
title. Representative Hermann has
attempted relief through the depart
merit, but without avail, and has now
resorted to legislative relief in congress.
His plan, as outlined in the bill intro
duced a few days ago. is U authorize
Oliver P. Coshow, of North Browns
ville, who is the assuee from the
railroad company, to make payment
of $2.50 per acre to the government,
and make entry of 162 acres specially
described, upon first giving 80 days'
notifte of his intention to make entry,
and thereafter he shall make aud de
liver to each person claiming to own
property in North Brownsville the
record title to which property shall
have been derived from any attempted
conveyances by the school superin
tendent, and the Oregon & California
Railroad Company. The entry when
made shall be transmitted by the Ore
gon City land office to the commission
er of the general land office, and upon
satisfactory showing to him that deeds
have been tendered by the entrymau
to the varlotiB property-holders, patent
shall issue to Oliver P. Coshow.
If the following from the Corvallis
Daily News is correct, there will be
lively boating on the Willamette this
winter: "We learn that there will be
seven boats on the river this season
running up from Portland. " The 0. P.
company will have the Hoag and the
Sisters on the upper river, the latter
probably running up as far aa Eugene,
and the former to Corvallis. The com
pany will also fun the' El wood from
Portland tn Salem. Then there are the
Altntona, Raniona, Toledo, Willamette
Chief and Manzaullla, which will also
run out of Portland, the two former as
tar up as Eugene and the latter exclu
sively for the Corvallis flouring mills,
while the other two will carry freight
between points. Under these circum
stances boating will be lively on the
river this winter."
Perhaps some of our readers would
like to know in what respect Chamber
lain's Cough Remedy is belter than
any other. We will tell you.- When
this remedy is taken as soon as a cold
has been contracted, aud before it has
become settled In the system, it will
eouuteract' effect of the cold aud
greatly lessen its severity, and It Is the
only remedy that will do this. It acts
in perfect harmony with nature and
aids nature iu relieving the lungs,
openiug the secretions, liquefying the
mucus apd causing its expulsion from
the air cells of the lungs and restoring
the system to a strong and healthy
condition. No other remedy in the

properties. No other will cure aoold
