Mr. W. Orsborne passed through
Lebanon last Saturday. He had Just
came across the mountaius and reports

Dr. Larubersou Is shipping a great

ton shipped out of Lebanon every day.

Eirst Presbyterian Church on Friday
evening, June 801 li for the purpose of
interesting the public In Kindergarten
Work. The public are oordially Invi

Presbyteriau church every Sunday,
morning and evening. The evening

Samuel Case, of Lebanon, 1 In Jail
In this city on a charge of horse steal
ing. The complaining witness is U.
W. Vernon. The case grew out of a
horse trade, after which Case became
dissatisfied sud demanded the retuiu
of the horse he bad traded to Vernon.
The lalter refused to give the horse up,
and Case took tbe animal away after
nightfall. Herald. Mr. Case has hot
been a resident of I his place lor some
lime.

I have taken up on tbe streets in
Lelwnou six bead of horses, viz: 1 sor
rel mare, 7 years old; 2 bay mares, 6
years old, both have Buckling colts;
1 brown 8 year old colt; and 1 gray 1
year old colt. All are branded. Tbe
horses will be sold on the 3d day of
July at 1 o'clock If not claimed.

Deputy U. S. Marshal Sinuott of
Portland arrested Jas. Wheeler, son
of L. M. Wheeler of this place on a
charge of robbing the post office at
Huio last September. Mr. Wheeler was
taken to Portland Wednesday where
he wus indicted. His father accompa
nied them. He was placed under 11000
bonds which was readily furnished.
His trial will come up in two or three

A. H. Roberts was arrested last Sat
urday evening for shooting off his pis
tol. He was put in tbe cooler and left
until Monday when his trial came off.
He was Ined $5.00 and cost; then the
oonstable arrested him on a charge of
carrying concealed weapons and he
was sentenced to 5 days in the county
jail where be was taken.
A leading Oculist at a recent meet
ing of the state board of health said:
We would have few eases of inflamed,

ald from Sodaville says: There have
been several cases of diphtheria near
there recently. Mr. Gundrsen lost a

At Eugene a young man named
Stehlburg took three young ladles out
riding In a two-seated buggy. Front
street is being graded and one side is
nearly two feet higher than the other.
Owing to the darkness this was not
noticed and as the result of driving
upon the street, the carriage overturn
ed. The occupant of the carriage
were dragged some distance and bad
ly bruised, and the horses soon broke
loose. One of them was found next
morning several miles away, but the
other has not yet leen heard from.
What promises to be a rate war
from tlii coast to the east Is growing
stronger each day and it is more than
likely that people can go from Al
bany to Chicago for 15 or 20 dollars
within the next 10 days. Bates are
now very low via the Northern and
Union Pacific roads, but their more
powerful rival, the Southern Pacific,
has at last taken notice of the cut
rates and is about to show it hand.
They are about lo withdraw from the
Passenger Association, and this Is look
ed upon by ticket agents as u war
cloud that may assume proportions
