The circular is prefaced by these re

a few years ago, has become, It may
he said, one of our national holidays.
Its original design has lieen modified

for economic and aisthctio purposes,
but its cbservauce has been made the

and along the streets or In public
parks, may have the effect of bringing
forward soon a generation who will
fee both the value and the beauty of
trees, as hitherto they have not been
felt in our country, and thus the reck
less destruction of our forests, now go
ing on with such threatening eonee
quences, may lie arrested before
the calamities are upon us which have
befallen other countries through the
loss of their trees." Statesman.
