THE 'PEOPLE OP THE CITY OF LEBANON,
LINN COUNTY, ORKION,iDO ORDAIN AB FOL-
.'LOWS:
BECTION I. That there be and hereby kgrant-
d to L. Foley and his associates and assigns the
right and franchise to erect and maintain in the
streets and alleys of the city of Lebanon, Linn
county, Oregon, eU such electric light posts, poles,
towers, wires, lines ofwtreaand other fixtures and
saaehiuery thatmaybe neeeaury or convenient
ur maintained for the purpose of carrying on a
systemof electrio lights in said city for the use of
; said city and the cltlsens thereof for the term of
tan years; and said parties shall also have the
. right to erect, construct, pus op and maintain in
aid city all such buildings and machinery that
may be necessary or convenient for the menu,
factum and distribution of electricity for lights at
power; Provided however that work on such sys
tem of electric lights and electric power shall be
commenced thirty days from she approval of this
--ordinance by the Mayor of said city and to com
plete the same withiu three months after such
work is commenced.
BECTION 2. The said i.tlejraitd his associ
, ates or assigns or successors are hereby authorised
to orect such posts, poles .and towers and to
stretch such wires snd lines of wires thereon in
suoh manner as not te interfere with the freeand
(Unobstructed use of the streets anci alleys for trav
cl and at such heights as may be designated by
,the mayor and common council of said city but in
no event shall such wires be teas than twenty feet
xabove the level of the streets.
. BECTION 3. Wheuever.lt shall become neces-
, aary in the erection of any such'poles, posts or
ttoweis to interfere in any manner with any street
vor alley said grantees, their successors and assigns
shall without delay put such street or alley lo as
.good condition as it was before it was broken, dug
' ,or disturbed, . :
SUCTION 4. The said L. Foley and his associ
ates and assigns may if they deem it best bury all
wires used for electric purposes, and for that pur
guee may enter upon the streets and alleys of said
ity,and dig and construct trenches therefor, pro-
. 'Tided the said wire is laid at such-depth as not to
llnterfere with the use of the streets for travel 'and
commerce.
SECTIONS. During the period of thta franchise
the mid L. Foley snd his associates or assigns,
ahall not charge for aaid electric light or lights
fleore than so per-cem. now changed by, the electric
Ughtoompany of Albany, Oiegoo, and the lights
furnished to the city of Lebanon shall 'be 80 per
' cent, of that paid by the city of Albany for electric
lights, said lights to burn all night.
SECTION 6. Thegrantofthisfranchiseisupon
the express condition that the said L. Foley and
his associates ami assigns shall at all times during
1 the-eontimiance of this grant after said works are
completed, furnish lo the city of Lebanon free of
cost aodwilhoiu any charge whatever therefor
except at a consideration for this franchise all of

Peroy Davis and Henry Berohtorf
are seeking for the hidden treasures of
the earth somewhere in the Blue
mountains one hundred miles east of
here. They will spend a month
searching for a mine which they im
agine exists, and will return to Prlne
vllle millionaires, it is hoped.
Owing te Mrs. Slayton having con
tracted a severe cold and sore throat at
Albany, she was unable to be here in
time to take her place In the public
schools at the opening last Monday,
and her place has been filled by Miss
Rova Dodson during the week. Mrs.
Slayton expects to be In her school
room next Monday.
James Conolly, ef Burnt Ranch, was
in town last Saturday with a wagon
load ef very fine apples. They were as
large as those raised in,Webfnot In
early days, and in flavor surpassed
anything Willamette valley ever rais
ed. They were raised in the eastern
part of Crook county, and still we are
told this is not a fruit country.
Umatilla county will not be safe
ground fur prize fighters to practice
the "manly" art so long as W. J. Fur
nish is sheriff. On Monday of last
week a putty of Walla Walla sports,
150 strong, came over Into Umatilla
county to witness a prize fight, but
sheriff Furnish Intercepted them, and
with three deputies frustrated the plans
of the combatants and held up the ISO
sports who were spoiliug for the fray.
This week Howard & Baldwin de
livered their beef at Deschutes bridge.
The average weight of their three,
four and five-year-old steers was 112
lbs., which we believe is the best aver
age any band of cattle from this part
of the country has shown this season.
One steer weighed 1875 lbs. and an
other 1020 lbs. When such cattle as
these can be raised in Crook county It
is folly to say the range is exhausted.
