The council met Tuesday evening In

A contract has been plaeed on file in
the county clerk's office of this county
for record which provides for the sale
of the Oregon Military road lands, by
their present owners, to Peter Muser
and associates of Muscatine, Iowa.
The contract provides that after the
suit now In the U. 8. courts is settled,
perfecting the titles of the land by the
government, that within thirty days
after said decision of the court and the
execution of the deeds, that Muser and
his associates will pay to the present
owners the sum of $350,000, and at the
expiration of one year $250,000, and in
two years $250,000, and the balance,
250,000, at the end of three years,
making a total of $1,100,000. The
notes are to draw six per cent interest.
This land is located in Lane, Klamath,
Lake, Harney and Malheur counties,
mid comprises 850,000 acres. Eugene

young man named Fales was shot and
instantly killed by 8. A. Webster,
proprietor of the Ocean House at
Huiijon, on Tuesday. It is reported
here that there was a dispute over
seventy-five cents alleged to be owing
the deceased, and that the murderer
asked him into a room to settle (he ac
count, when he shot and killed the
victim. These are all the particulars
received here up to time of going to
press." A Mr. Webster went from Al
bany to Randon, where he engaged in
the hotel business, but whether the
same man or not we have not yet
learned.
