Hon. W. H. H. Waters, Attorney at

man paid this office a pleasant visit on
Monday, He was astonished at the
rapid growth of our city and expressed
great surprise at the wonderful ad
vancement of Lebanon in the past two
years. He says the half was not told
him of the Improvement.
We cull attention, especially to the
citizens of Lebanon, to the proceedings
of the mass-meeting to be found in an
other column. Nothing but good can
possibly acorue to Lebanon from grant
ing this franchise asked for by the
Sodaville Motor Line Co. Every
movement of this kind can but swell
the volume of Lebanon's business and
contribute to our prosperity; what If
it does help Sodaville and the incorpo
rators, we oan but rejoice at their pros
perity and congratulate them on their
enterprise. Let ns not be narrow
hearted and narrew minded enough to
suppose that their growth will deteri
orate from us let all good citizens give
it a word of cheer and a hearty God

Line Co.

which the meeting was called.
On motion of J. R. Kirkpatrick the

Arrested tor Murder. -Saturday
evening Sheriff Scott returned from
Splcer with D. A. McDougall, whom
he had arrested lu response to a dis
patch from W. A. Plukerton, of the
Plnkerton detective force of Chicago.
McDougall admitted that he was the
right until. The following dispatch,
dated at Chicago, July 80th, and signed
by Pinkei'tou, received by the Sheriff,
explain the whole matter: "D. A.
McDougall, alias Jones, is wanted ut
Luiirmburgh, North Carollua, for the j
murder of Simon Couoly, committed i
April 21, 1881. The authorities at
Laurmburgu offer a reward of $300 for I
his arrest and deteutlou until papers

Is said to be uow at Splcer, Linn Coun
ty, Oregon, going under the name of
D. 11. MeLuurlti. His description Is,
81! years old, 5 feet, 10 Inches high,
