Work on the Baptist church which

Judge F. M. Mill, r has had the
dwelling house just north of the Odd
Fellows hall, moved hack sufficiently
to allow tlie erection of a- new store
building which he is nbont to erect.
Tlie store will be 80x22 feet two stories.
He Is also improveing the appearance
of the dwelling.
Last Friday Alex Purdom formerly
of Albany, who has been running his
brother Jos' ranch, near Oregon City,
had some trouble with a man named
Billy Henderson, about some straw.
Henderson was determined to pick a
fight with Alex and followed him up
finally attacking him. In the fight
Hint followed Henderson got hold of a
bottle, broke it over Alex's head and
jambed the broken pieces iu his right
eye, ruining it, and a Portland doctor
took It out. Henderson was arrested
and ought to go to the pen. Democrat
Post-master F. M. Miller is dolly ex
pecting the arrival of a lot of new
post office fixtures, In the way of a
front, with 04 lock boxes of bronzXime-
tttl,45 alphabetical boxes 170 call boxes,
glass, with wire bottom, a neat deliv
ery window and a mail box, all of the
regulation pattern; just such an outfit
as this growing town needs. The
postmaster found his duties iu the
mail department of Uncle Sam's ser
vice very burdensome the fl rst few days
of his administration, the malls being
large and the public impatient. But
now all complaint has died away, and
a very satisfactory service Is bad.
Judge Miller will no doubt be a popu

Just at this time the minds of the
people iu and about Lebanon, Albany,
Tollman, Sodaville and Waterloo are
somewhat agitated over the railroad
question. The first of tlie week (lie
report was that Dr. Hill and associates
were to build au electric railroad from
Sodaville to Albany via Tollman or via
Lebanon conditionally. The plots of
the various routes hove been prepared
and prices of narrow gauge track bad
from Portland; and a representative
dispatched to San Francisco to make
enquiry Into cost' of equipment. Now
the rumor is that Mess. J. K. Weather
ford and Tliomas Kay have made a
proposition to the Southern Pocillc
Ry. Co. to grade the road bed, if the
company will complete and operate au
exteutlun of the road f rom Lebanon to
Waterloo, und tlie proposition is said
to have been accepted. Engineer E. J.
O'Connor is now making survey.
