gained that there is every prospect of a
fruit canning industry being started iu
our town. The right man with the
necessary amount of money has been

of our citizens, establish this much
needed enterprise.
Hugh Fields, during the past week,
has been making arrangements for the
proposed tailor shop for the manufac
ture of the "Eagle Woolen Mill's" cloth

known at present whether the manu
factory will be established ut Browns
ville or at Portland.
Cox Bros. & Co. have bought from
A. Hackleman, of Albany, two lots for
the consideration of f 1200. Upon this
ground the firm will build and operate
a large steam planing mill and sash
and door factory. Mr. D. C. Cox, one
of the firm, is from Tucomu, and his
brother, W illiam Cox, and C. II. Ho-
berg, the other members of the firm,
are from browusville.
On Saturday evening a number of
the friends of Rev. A. Le Roy and fam
ily met ut the parsonage and most
agreeably surprised tho reverend gen
tleman and wife by taking possession
of their residence and demanding an
unconditional surrender of the premi
ses and inmates, us the besieging force
whs composed of the ladies of the con
gregation over which the reverend
gentleman presides, lie, with laudable
courtesy and also great prudence, being
in point of numbers in the minority,
acceded to tho terms of the besieging
force, who took entire possession of the
house, and A'ith due despatch arranged
a most artistically decorated uud sub
stantially ladened table, to which the
assembled company were invited, am
ple justice by them being done to the
profusion of epicurean luxuries. The

ble by tho presentation of a beautiful
cut glass tray, exquisitely mounted in
silver, to the Kev. Lo Roy and wife,
